hi everyone on the legal matters part of mumsnet, im wondering if anyone could help.

dd had a relationship with a 15 yo boy and the boys mother has gone to the police. i dont want to go into everything but im just wondering if a situation like this would mean prison. can i just say that i didnt know about this relationship. however, this boy was bigger than her!

LemonBreeland Tue 07-Feb-17 16:21:26

It really depends on how much older than the boy she is.

LoftDweller Tue 07-Feb-17 16:21:32

How old is she?

Bluntness100 Tue 07-Feb-17 16:21:47

How old is your daughter please?

buckingfrolicks Tue 07-Feb-17 16:22:22

if you're talking about them having sex underage, then no, she won't - in law, she's unable to give consent under the age of 16 so the boyfriend, technically, will have raped her. It is him who stands to be punished (which extremely unlikely, the police won't press charges unless she's upset/saying she's been cooerced etc).

HallowedMimic Tue 07-Feb-17 16:22:37

How old is she?

Is she a teacher or something?

Mooey89 Tue 07-Feb-17 16:23:09

It depends how old your daughter is, and whether she is in a position of responsibility?

Costacoffeeplease Tue 07-Feb-17 16:23:45

It depends on how old she is,'and whether she's in a position of trust/authority

PigletWasPoohsFriend Tue 07-Feb-17 16:25:18

Very much depends on your DD age.

Bluntness100 Tue 07-Feb-17 16:25:57

Bucking, I'm assuming the daughter is the age of consent if his mother went to the police and the son is the one who was raped.

BitchPeas Tue 07-Feb-17 16:26:58

Massively depends if your DD is 17 or 37! Or whatever.

BreatheDeep Tue 07-Feb-17 16:27:38

Did she know he was 15? And how old is she?

teaforbreakfast Tue 07-Feb-17 16:27:38

Probably not

LoftDweller Tue 07-Feb-17 16:29:19

What a pointless thread if you're not going to give relevant details hmm

Bluntness100 Tue 07-Feb-17 16:30:20

But even if she's 17 she will be put on the sex offenders register, sorry op. The punishment itself depends on so much more.

BillyButtfuck Tue 07-Feb-17 16:30:42

This thread is going to be a drip feed nightmare hmm

FellOutOfBed2wice Tue 07-Feb-17 16:32:59

As others have said it depends on her age and whether she was a teacher or was in a position of trust.

ncfordd3 Tue 07-Feb-17 16:33:41

oh honestly really sorry thought i put her age, she is 18. no drip feed intended at all just dont want to say everything

Northernlurker Tue 07-Feb-17 16:33:43

Going to the police doesn't mean she will be prosecuted and if she is prosecuted it's not a given she's found guilty though she may choose to plead guilty of course. Your daughter needs legal advice immediately and she should act on that advice in terms of the questions she answers.

ncfordd3 Tue 07-Feb-17 16:36:23

no position of trust they are at the same school/sixth form, will add that in there too.

Slimmingsnake Tue 07-Feb-17 16:40:08

Is he nearly 16

BitchPeas Tue 07-Feb-17 16:42:18

If they go to the same school then she would have known his age and she still had sex with him so that doesn't look good.

BornStroppy Tue 07-Feb-17 16:43:13

i thought male age of consent was 14? (unless position of trust etc)

scaredofthecity Tue 07-Feb-17 16:45:27

He is over 14 and she is only 3 years older so I very much doubt there will be any action at all. If it was the other way round would you think anything of it?

ThroughThickAndThin01 Tue 07-Feb-17 16:45:40

I think theyre too close in age for the police to be interested..
