Hi, if I own a house that is mortgaged in my name and subsequently married afterwards, does he have any claim over the house if we divorce?

Thanks for reading

Yes, but it depends on a few things.

How long you were married, any children, his contribution to the mortgage and bills etc.

Not a straight 50/50 split.

Absolutely yes.
All assets in either of your names are potentially available for division on divorce. How much he might get depends on yours and his full financial circumstances and financial needs and if the property was your marital home.
If you are not yet married seek advice about a pre nuptial agreement. It is also possible to have a post nup. Not automatically followed by the courts but providing certain safeguards are followed and the agreement meets basic needs, unlikely to be departed from.

Yes. Property is a marital asset and will be considered as part of the financial settlement.

Lots of variables in how a financial settlement is reached, covering all assets, so not possible to predict what it might mean for you.
