diving holiday

Can anyone help me please my fella was going on a diving holiday but due to trouble with the is flight was cancelled and a new holiday was arranged but they has been trouble there too, plus he has no more holidays to take left.

He paid the group leader ( through PayPal) £550, that's for the return flight to Sharm from Manchester, a weeks accommodation & boat diving.
My fella arranged with the leader to pay the money when he drew his pension in late September, as he was struggling at the time of booking which the leader was ok with.

Due to to ISIS activity in Sharm the flights had been cancelled & another destination was suggested, Hurghada.
Unfortunately my fella does not have any more A/L days to take as the flight out was a day earlier than the previous one, so decided to cancel the flight and ask for a refund as the travel company Monarch offered.
On Friday 8th there was a further disturbance in Hurghada, my fella liked a post on the clubs Facebook page, which suggested why would any one go there if there was a threat.

Later on that evening he tried contacting the group leader on Facebook only to find that he was blocked from the club page & the group leader has also blocked him too, but noticed that he had £249 transferred into his bank account, but £300 short.
He phoned Monarch customer services on Saturday morning to find that monies had already been refunded to the group leaders card.
He has tried calling the group leaders mobile, left a voice mail & has also sent a email both to no avail.
The email ended by my fella stating that "at the end of the day it was you that organised the holiday, and it's up to you to help me resolve this".

Any advice greatly received

ok, so if I understand this, the cost of the holiday has been refunded to the group leader, and your 'fella' needs to get the money back from him. It appears that he is owed £50.

so he keeps trying to contact the group leader, asking for the £50 back.

if more is owed than this, then the travel insurers should refund it if Hurghada is now an FCO no-go zone. If it isn't, then no refund.

facebook is irrelevant.

Who booked with Monarch? The other guy? The person who booked gets the refund, for money laundering reasons. If your fella booked his own flights, the refund should have gone to him.

Do you have anything in writing from the organiser about cancellation terms? Or anything where he's agreed to refund your fella?

You might need to take small claims action to recover the other money. You'd start that by sending a letter before action requesting the rest of your refund. Do you have an address for him?

The group leader booked the flights & the accommodation without any form of receipts, my fella paid him using PayPal.
PayPal say that he cannot deal with them due to it been a personal transaction.

Yeah, if he paid as a gift they won't get involved.

Monarch won't either, they have to refund the person who booked.

Did your fella book travel insurance?

If not, your next option is small claims. Do you have an address for the man?

Monarch Airlines gave my fella the option of re-booking another flight, a voucher or a refund, see attached

The leader has booked this holiday as a group, there was no mention from him to take out personal travel insurance.

If the leader's card was the card paid with, the refund should go back to that - the person travelling can decide what they want to do (so if you wanted to rebook, you could arrange that) but refunds have to go back onto the same card for Money Laundering reasons, unless he was advised differently?

His only other option is the Small Claims court, provided you have an address for the person who booked.

that's very good news!!

for future ref; you book a holiday abroad, you take out travel insurance that day whether it is mentioned or not.
