Hi all my daughter bought a corsa a few months back the seller had advertised it on facebook so she contacted him but didn't wont to meet her at his house she basically she bought it from him at the side of the road,he gave her the green new owner part,so she used the new keeper part to insure and tax the car and so she sent in the green part to dvla, but they have wrote back saying who was the last owner etc,we're now guessing he has never sent in the part he should have and all she has is his phone number, she rang him but he won't give his details that she needs to give dvla, his address or name and without these details she can't get the log book where does she stand?

oh dear oh dear.

NEVER buy a car privately when you can't go to the address on the V5. Rule #1.

did you do any HPI checks? What do the DVLA suggest she does?

this is, I'm afraid, shouting 'stolen car'.

He gave her just the little green new keeper part and said he would be sending it off but since then she has just got a form too fill in but it's asking for the sellers details address name ETO which the dude when she rang him will not give all he has said his he can come to her house ,but why should he if he's geniune he should just his details over the phone unless he's buying the cars from auction and selling from street to avoid paying tax on his business but what we can't understand his why won't he give his address so she can get the ownership of the log book

How has she got it taxed and insured without being able to register it?

he won't give his address because the car is stolen/not his/he is indeed trading without a licence. Or a bundle of other crooked reasons.

there is no reason for anyone honest not to sell their car from their own address. Anyone who doesn't want people coming round has to sell the car to a garage/WBAC/etc.

again - did you do any HPI checks? This car may be a cut and shut.

I'm guessing the op's daughter is also driving around illegally since she hasn't answered the questions. Months this has been going on...how is it insured and therefore taxed?

because she had just the green slip that says new keeper she filed in her details on that and took to post office with her insurance paper and they taxed it and then she sent that green part in to dvla then that's when they wrote back asking for previous owner details etc but she doesn't this because the guy she bought it from said he would send the full v5 in before xmas the strange thing is she checked the car on line and it was taxed for about 20 days so we belived the v5 had been sent in from him becuae that's why the tax was then stopped thinking he was claiming the excess tax back so she taxed the car

Well I think her insurance will be invalid then. I'm sure one of the questions on my policy asks that I am the registered keeper (so you have an insurable interest in the vehicle). She should look into this.

Can you run an hpi check or ask AA/Rac/local garage to inspect it . Who did the last mot , maybe they would have a record of the "owner" . If she bought via fb are his details on there?

Does insurance have legal cover?

hi all what I can gather is the dude she bought it off he did send in the v5 but it looks like the lady owner previously must of sold it to the auction then this dude bought it from auction he had the full v5 book so when he sent it in to dvla he has not put his details on the log book or when the lady sold this to auction she never filled in the details to say she had sold it to the auction

so he is an illegal trader.

for a third time; did you do any HPI checks? Is it a write-off? Stolen? Finance outstanding?

get it off the road until these questions are answered. If your daughter has a crash without insurance she is in more trouble than you can believe.
