How long do you need to have been back at work before you can go off long term sick again at full pay? Can't see employment contract but just trying to get a sense if a "friend" is pulling a fast one. Impacts me directly if he is which is why I ask. Not a private company, just trying to get a sense of scale. Ie back 3 months or 12 or somewhere in between. Can't give too many details, sorry.

Not surprised it's not a private company. In fact many companies do not pay you when off sick except state SSP so not surprisingly people don't go on long term sick as much as they aren't being paid.

Too many people exploit the system like this although some employers will require their own medical assessment and will follow and video the employee perfectly lawfully in public places to check they are not just an idle malingerer.

Look at the employment contract as it might set out a maximum time for paying people when off sick. Surely if you work with this person your emplyoment con5tract is likely to be like theirs so would give you an idea. Also if it's a state body it may be possible to obtain copies of its standard employment contracts and terms by a Freedom of Information Act request.

Is the policy on the intranet? Full pay is normally time limited and mire than so many sick days necessitate back to work and possibly disciplinary processes.

Depends on the sick pay policy, but X weeks of sick pay in a rolling 12 month period is a common approach

My do work for the loca government and I work shop based ( not retail as such )
Both our company's have the same policy
If you go sick then the sick resumes one year after you come back
For example
If I went sick 1st jan -14th March then I "accumulate " the holiday back on 15th March the following year
My sister has just returned from long term sick, she's run out of full sick pay , any sick taken now will be at half pay
She will be entitled to full paid sick again 26th jan 2016 ( the date she returned )
