What are my rights?

I bought an Amazon kindle fire tablet for my 10 yr old dd for Christmas from Argos. At first it was fine and worked properly. Now, suddenly the sound has disappeared, both from the external speakers & the headphone speakers. It hasn't been dropped or anything, just one minute the sound was there, and the next it was gone! I want to return it to Argos, but need to know my rights if they try to fob me off. I didn't take out any of the 'protection'stuff Argos tried to sell me when I bought it, but I would describe it as faulty, so do I need that anyway to get it fixed or a replacement? Thanks for your help.x

It is a faulty product and not fit for purpose. As it is faulty (not unwanted) you don't need to provide proof of purchase (some companies will try to insist on it, but you really don't).
The shop's obligation is to repair, replace or reimburse you. Hope that helps! Also, have a look at Trading Standards website. Good luck

As you bought it before Christmas you may have lost the right to reject the tablet and get a full refund although you may still get one. You definitely have the right to a repair or replacement but Argos can decide which you get. If they can't do either you are entitled to a reduction in price or a refund less an amount for the usage you've had. You don't legally need proof of purchase although, if there is any dispute as to whether (or when) you bought it from Argos, a receipt or a credit card statement showing the payment will help.

I've always found Argos pretty good when I've had problems. I hope they sort it out quickly for you.

Have you tried resetting the kindle to 'factory default'? Sometimes it is just a software thing. Kindle also have a helpline I think.

Also some apps knock off the sound settings so the sound needs resetting. Has she downloaded some apps recently?

ring amazon even though you didnt get it from them. They are really good at talking you through how to fix them and replacing them if they are under a year.

Thanks everyone. I've still got the receipt so proof of purchase is no problem. I'm not after a refund or any money back,&I don't mind if the current one is repaired or replaced,I just want it to work properly with sound on! I haven't tried resetting to factory settings. I'm guessing that will delete all of the apps she's downloaded? ? But its worth a try. Otherwise I'll go back to Argos & see what they say. Thanks.x

I've taken a couple of electrical items back to Argos. They were great.
