Changing the status of ownership from tenants in common to joint tenants

Does anyone know how you'd do this? We bought before we were married and elected to own the property as TinC as my (now) DH was putting in a deposit and we thought that should be reflected in the ownership to secure his initial contribution if we were to break up.

However a wedding and two DCs later we would prefer it to be jointly owned I suppose thinking about inheritance etc. is this possible? I can find how to sever a joint tenancy but not how to smoosh a TinC into a joint.

Thanks

Hi, you need to enter into a trust deed stating that you are now joint tenants, then register it at the land registry. A residential property solicitor can deal with it for you.
See www.landregistry.gov.uk/public/guides/public-guide-18#guide-mark-12 for an explanation of what's involved.

We actually severed a joint tenancy to aid inheritance tax planning as then each tenant can will his/her share to the children

Thank you, that's really helpful.
