You can import it, so buy it from the Internet without prescription for personal use. That's not illegal. Says dr google. But then you risk buying fakes.
I'm sure coffee will work out cheaper...

Took caffeine pills throughout my A levels they were OK but had annoying side effects.

"yes it it.

Do you have a source for this because I can't find one.

"Why do you need it?"

To do better in my degree.

Google the side effects of modafinil - in rare cases these include skin delamination.

Are you sure you've picked the right course for you? You shouldn't be relying on chemicals before you've even started. Please think about this?

I'm not really hear to discuss safety/ethics I just want to make sure I won't be breaking the law.

Presumably you have access to a lab to check what you buy on the Internet is what you think it is and not cleaning tablets. Though tbh if you're stupid enough to buy drugs off the Internet you clearly need all the help you can get - people that sell drugs mail order aren't the most scrupulous you know...

Actually I will be checking what I buy is what it's suppose to be (putting that chemistry A level to use). Also the seller on the site has over 1000 transactions and 100% positive feedback.

I just want someone who knows the relevant Statute/Act to tell me what the law says.

OK then. If you don't want to use pro plus because of the side effects, do you really think you can cope with the common side effects of headache, nausea and dizziness from the modafinil?

no its not illegal to buy it off prescription. I have bought it (modalert) online (unitedpharmacies). Try and stay away from anything from india or china. Its prescription for narcolepsy and for some people who have problems adjusting to night work. MSers buy it for lack of concentration and it does have a slight mood brightening affect.
I debated long, because buying meds online is usually a idiotic thing to do.
Right so now you know its out there, why the heck would a student go into uni , armed with the stuff? You really do not need it, from the get go, and hopefully will never need it (even though a lot of students use it- a lot of students use a lot of stuff).

Please save your cash, and adjust your lifestyle. Its boring but ,planning your work, getting sleep, looking after yourself. If when your at uni, concentration becomes an issue then see a doc there- you may get it on prescription for free!

The side effects from caffeine weren't that bad, it was more a problem with the tolerance I built up. The anecdotal evidence of modafinil is that it's "better" than caffeine and side effects are uncommon. I don't know how I'll react to modafinil which is why I want to order it, and test its effectiveness, well before I leave for university.

I'm a bit concerned that you are depending on caffeine pills and substitutes as a "must have" before you even get to uni.

I use modalert from united pharmacies too. I think it would only be illegal if you were to supply to others, though I imagine this would be lucrative knowing students who wish to cram

Have you used before? I got a few headaches at first but now all good. Amazing CNS stimulant to be perfect it would knock my appetite off more, but hey you can sleep if you wish on it and it provides fantastic focus.
Good luck with your degree! Positive personal use is fine it's the supplying they won't like.

I have a good routine and a strong work ethic these pills are more of a cherry on top. The only thing a doctor would prescribe me would be adderall which is an amphetamine and has serious side effects.

"no its not illegal to buy it off prescription"

Do you have a source for this? I would really appreciate it.

Billions of people take caffeine everyday without even giving consideration to safe dosage or it's half life whereas I did.
The caffeine pills or modafinil aren't a "must have" they were simply used to boost my productivity, I'm aiming for a first from one of the top university in England I'll need all the help I can get.

The way I understand it as long as its not a Controlled Drug buy what you want off an Internet pharmacist as long as its for personal. Lot of dodge online pharmacies though... However, power of the Internet forums which discuss reliable pharmacies (not often mumsnet have to add!)

Love the idea of A level chemistry being sufficient to check what's in the tablets Grin

It took me precisely three seconds to put your thread title into google and find out the answer. Ie- you can import it from an non uk website to use for personal use in the uk. But in the uk it is only available prescription only, not over the cou get in boots.

There's no need to poo poo people's contributions, it won't MAKE you do better in your degree, instead the side effects could actually hamper your progress. You're more likely to do better in your degree if you're not out till 4am three nights a week, go to bed at a decent time, do regular exercise, attend all your lectures, and do extra reading round your subject.

In the UK it is a prescription only medicine and can only be purchased from a UK based Internet pharmacy with a valid doctors prescription.
Purchasing from a non-UK pharmacy is an illegal importation of medicine and has fines associated with it.

I have bought it from "Sunmodalert" twice with no problems. What I have found is that Modafinil is POM in the UK, so you can import up to 180 tablets per order. My friend ordered 300 pills at once and UK customs opened up his package, charged him VAT tax but still package was delivered to him with no problems.

They are both prescription only medicines (source electronic medicines compendium medicines.org.uk).
It is illegal for websites based in the UK to sell these drugs online if you don’t provide a prescription from your doctor, although some sites offer online consultations. The MHRA monitors sites that sell prescription drugs, and if based in the UK, they must be registered pharmacies. If they are not, they can be prosecuted. (Source MHRA website).
Thing is the MHRA also say that I'd it the resale or supply to others that is illegal do if it is for personal use then it is legal.

Before you buy them though, I beg you to read the summary of products characteristics on the emc site I have sourced above, if only to know what to avoid taking at the same time or things to look out for!

It’s ok to buy it before the Psychoactive Substances Bill comes into place in the UK. I have tried “Sunmodalert” operating from the UK, I've been using them for a couple of years now - no problems at all. I recommend getting the 200mg Modalert tablets.
