Legal matters

Is the solicitor we've been allocated being a bit rubbish or do I have unreaslistic expectations? Mortgage related.

We (me and DH) own a 50% share in a property, via a housing association. In July our fixed term mortgage on our share of the property came to an end and we were automatically put on our current mortgage lender's standard variable rate which was much higher than we'd been paying.

So I went via London and Country brokers and found a new mortgage product, then were allocated solicitors via our new mortgage lender. We were put in contact with them in July and started the ball rolling with transferring our mortgage.

Its now mid December and it has still not happened. I've emailed our contact person about 5 times now over last 2 months asking why it is being so slow and get a fairly standard reply saying that shared ownership mortgages can be complicated and do take time and that it should be completed soon.

Should I get a bit more huffy with them (and what should I say?) or is this just par for the course with this kind of thing? Never remortgaged before so uncertain what is normal. My main annoyance is that each month that goes by that we remain with old lenders we are paying an extra £100 a month on our mortgage.

Doesn't sound right. Maybe they're overworked. This often happens when you're quoted a ridiculously low fixed fee.

You could start by making a complaint about the delay, and pointing out how much it's costing you.
