changing name by deed poll?! HELP!!

hiya, so- me and dp have decided that its time he changed his name by deed poll (various reasons)
he is happy to do so, but bless him, is a bit nervous and wants me to sort it.... i have no idea how!
done an internet search but no idea if any of these companies are legit, do we HAVE to go to a solicitor? we dont really have the money.....
so.. advice please!
any sites which are legit which you have used / if not online then how?!

You just do it online www.deedpoll.org.uk/. I did that and regretted it though.

I changed my name almost 10 years ago and don't regret it for a minute. It is as simple as it seems you don't need a solicitor you just print out a from and sign it and then start contacting passport , banks etc.

Yes, do it online, my friend and her DD have just done it. They said it was very simple to do but now three weeks later she's still doing the contacting banks/driving licence/ insurance etc, she said she didn't realise just how many people have your name!

happylander its not a very big change, noone even knows the other part of his name is there so hes just getting rid of it so our daughter can have his sirname, as apposed to also having the bit of it noone uses or likes Hmm

were you happy with the website you used? how much did it cost you? :)

About £60-70 quid I think. You pay extra for more than 2 legal copies. It was good.

My name was changed by deed poll, I used a solicitor purely because he was doing other work for us so we were in his office anyway.

I was a "known as" for ages and wish now that my name was changed legally sooner, as there is always some company who digs their heals in.

Easily done, the deed poll just says you are XXXX you now wish to renounce that name and be called YYYY.
