Sheets laundry - do you do it all in one day?

Yeah. I do. Its bloody hard doing it all at once but the only way I feel on top of things. How many beds do you do?

2 sets of bunks and a king size. It takes 4 loads of the machine!

Oh and the cot, but that gets done when it gets puked on so more frequently usually.

How I a wish for launderette style room at the back of the house and a chute from upstairs straight to the washing machine.

I wash my sheets as soon as I change them, as otherwise they clod up the laundry baskets. I have 2 x double beds and I change sheets a lot, mine usually every other day, dd's twice a week.

Every other day! I'd never be done washing.

I was just thinking today that I could employ someone full time to do laundry in this house. I would love a utility room. As it is, the kitchen doubles up as a laundry and dining room.

Yes, all in one day. 8 single beds in one day. Quilt covers go outside to dry and the pillowcases and sheets go in the tumble dryer.

I do my bed on a different day though.

I only do a couple of beds at a time as I hate having the washing bins screaming at me for too long, so just enough to do a load of washing, then do another couple the next time.
Must admit, I should do them more often than I do , but certainly couldn't do alternative days!

Kids strip their beds every Monday morning and I wash most of it on a Monday morning - It was worth the extra 2 buy a light commercial washing machine and dryer. I have 12 identical cream single bed sets - so always have a spare - I make beds 2 sheets - They all do own duvet covers - smallest with help ;)

I send mine to the laundry, it is picked up and returned beautifully ironed in tissue a week later, all for £3.50 for a super king size sheet ( 1000 count cotton)

Taking into account, powder, conditioner and the tumble drier and the 15 minutes each to iron, as they are 280 cm by 280cm, I figure that I can only get one at a time in the machine, -I don't use a duvet, so have two of them, twice a week, and they are a bugger to iron, it is great value.

No stress!

I do the kids one day, and ours another day usually, so that there is enough room on the line to dry it all.

they strip it, and load it into the machine, I turn it on, and hang it out, then put it back on the bed once it done. It's maybe a half hour job?

If you line dry, it doesn't need ironing.

obv not half hour from start to fin, but about 30 mins of actualyl doing anything.

Do all the sheets, pillowcases and quilt covers for 4 beds fit into one wash?

yes, one load. It's only 4 single sheets, 4 pillow cases and 4 duvet covers. I do tend to overload the machine a bit, but it does get clean.

If I had to do bedspreads, mattress protectors and duvets it takes longer.

juuule, if my sheets weren't ironed they would look like crumpled paper! They come back so smooth, I like my bed to look like a hotel bed and made up the same way with a blanket between the top sheets, no sweaty duvet for me, no thanks!

Ah I suppose that's a benefit of cheap sheets, they don't need ironing

It's the drying that's the problem if it's wet weather - no space in a 3-bed and so expensive to use the tumble dryer all the time. My parent's house is massive and they have an airer over an aga so drying takes no time.

flamingobingo Nooooo! I don't iron them, someone else does. They'd take forever the size and thickness they are, hence using a laundry, that collects them dirty in a special box and deliver them back tissue wrapped.

My mother and her mother always sent their sheets to the laundry, so I followed tradition. My DS and DB do too, but they live in countries where they only cost pennies to get them done.

My great grandmother worked in a laundry and so did her mother

Alibubbles - do you do that for all your bedding? Is it just your bed or your children's too? How many children's beds is that?

Sorry if I'm being nosy, I'm just a bit taken aback that people send their sheets away at such a cost. It's a revelation and seems a world away from my laundry experience. So forgive me for being a bit intrigued.

My grandma used to send hers away to the laundry - she had four children. I would, except it costs money and my lovely mum does it for us!

Depends on the weather - if it's good drying weather, yes.
