grin

I wonder who has the most children on here

suzywong Thu 27-Mar-08 11:54:31

yes, what is the benchmark? What's the criterion?
do the five-childed look down upon the merely four-childed?
how does it work?

Nemoandthefishes Thu 27-Mar-08 11:56:44

I have 3 want a no.4 but would say I have 5 if you count dh..he accounts for at least 2 toddlers in behaviourhmm

Anyone read 'call the midvies'?

Theres a lady in that book (true story about midwiffery in the 1950's) and she had 25 children by 40! shock

The 25th was born prematurely and surrvived by staying between its mothers breasts and having breastmilk from a spoon every 30 minutes!

Disenchanted Thu 27-Mar-08 12:26:55

midwives that was supposed to be obviously!

Lulumama Thu 27-Mar-08 12:41:47

i;ve read it, that story made me weep!

i think Juuule has 8 or 9 DCs

i have 2

and that is the way it is going to stay !

TheDuchessOfNorksBride Thu 27-Mar-08 12:42:35

juule has 9. I'm sure someone else has 8. Largegin&tonic was talking about no. 7 earlier. A surprising number have 6.

I'm just a poor relation. No. 4 not due for another 8 weeks grin (and it's my last).

Disenchanted Thu 27-Mar-08 12:47:53

I think I want 5.

Lord knows why but I do.

Immaculateconception Thu 27-Mar-08 12:51:00

4 kids here

NeverSayNever Thu 27-Mar-08 12:54:22

7 but not all at home and 1 of them I inherited from Dh, my lovely Dsd, who lives with us.

brimfull Thu 27-Mar-08 12:54:25

Not a mumsnetter (well I don't think she is?) but a woman in our town has 17 children, they all look very similar.Last were twins about 2 months ago.shock

magnolia74 Thu 27-Mar-08 13:15:16

5 smile
A lottery win would mean more though grin

BellaDonna79 Thu 27-Mar-08 14:13:45

I have 5 but I had them all in under 4 years though smile
Would like another couple in about 10 years I think...

AlwaysTheMummy Thu 27-Mar-08 14:34:49

21shock

She must have been pregnant for all of her adult life! what size house does she live in?

3NAB Thu 27-Mar-08 16:26:22

I have been wondering about asking who had the most for ages. How much are we up too?

mrbojangles Thu 27-Mar-08 16:34:17

Just a small 4 here

juuule Thu 27-Mar-08 19:38:01

This always makes my jaw drop -

"The mother who gave birth to the most children was the wife of Russian Feodor Vassilyev. Her 69 children included 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets."

From the Guinness Book of Records.

shock shock

I have a mere 9.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride Thu 27-Mar-08 20:03:00

Just another 61 to go for the record then juule? grin

M. Vassilyev never had a singleton birth shock in 27 pregnancies. Do you think her pelvic floor held up...?

juuule Thu 27-Mar-08 20:15:06

Do you think she was upset that she didn't make it to a nice, even 70?
Bit of an uneven number 69, isn't it?wink

pedilia Thu 27-Mar-08 20:41:50

69 shockshock

that is crazy, how would you even remember their names??

suedonim Thu 27-Mar-08 20:43:31

I have a mere four dc so def not the person with the most. When I was at junior school we were making graphs in maths to show the size of our families. The teacher asked a new girl in the class how many siblings she had and she promptly burst into tears, which astonished us all. But not as much as discovering that she was one of 16 children! Some of the older children had a couple of their own children before the youngest siblings were even born.

abigaillockhart Thu 27-Mar-08 20:45:23

Am shock and a little bit envy at how many of you have 4 or more. Just two here and a DH who is adamant he doesn't want more. sad

kittywise Thu 27-Mar-08 20:51:44

I have 6, when no.6 was born the eldest was 8.
Now he's 9 wink

UniversallyChallenged Thu 27-Mar-08 22:29:47

Lisalisa - Tips? I'm hoping to pick some up myself as most of the time I tend to do the muddle-through and get on with it school of parenting.
Why 9? That's a heck of a question. Probably one that might get different answers on different days. Im, not sure. Part giving in to that broody feeling, part wanting my children to have each other after we're gone and hoping that if there's a few of them they should get on with one or two at least hmm, part that I like the bustle that goes on and how interesting they all are and how they bring a new dimension with each individual baby/child/young person. But maybe I'm just selfish. Why do people have children? Whether it's one, two or more? In fact, some days I ask the same question wink
Why have you had yours? No need to answer if you don't want to

kellyf Fri 28-Mar-08 19:13:55

Hi

i have 5,would have loved another one but i dont think my body could take any more lol!

chamaeleon Fri 28-Mar-08 19:23:04

i would love to see tea time in your house juuule, i only have 4 but its like a military operation getting them all fed. at breakfast time the 1st to get their cereal (has to be hot atm and all different of course so all have to be done individually) is usually asking for toast before the last has their 1st course, i sometimes wonder about installing a conveyor belt grin

3monkeys Fri 28-Mar-08 19:31:22

I would love more for the reason you have loads Juule! I love all the busy times, hate having nothing to do. Had to persuade DH to have 3 though, so no chance of number 4 although very broody!

Disenchanted Fri 28-Mar-08 19:34:37

Juule I bet your house is ace!

I want 5 but am having a struggle concieveing number 3!

SniffyHock Fri 28-Mar-08 20:45:58

How on earth do you feed them all? And get them to brush their teeth?

I have nothing but admiration for all of you with large families. I have two and would sometimes LOVE to have more but I find it so hard keeping on top of washing, ironing, feeding and cleaning as it is. And that's before I start on puzzles and stories - what am I doing wrong????

dreamydowler Sat 29-Mar-08 12:06:54

I have 7 but watch with envy cheaper by the dozen lol Im sure Ill probably end up with 9

DragonFaerie Sat 29-Mar-08 12:20:10

Good lord - how do you all cope with so many pregancies?? I'm on my 2nd and did want 3 but am positively dying with this one. I am seriously wondering how you mange to do it 4, 5, 6 or more times..... were they all easy ones or something????

pukka Sat 29-Mar-08 21:37:57

in rl, we are amongst the largest families around. we have three children. shock
i know of two familes with five kids, but the are seen as almost, but not quite abnormal. shock
i sometimes want to laugh when i hear about people complaining about getting something done when they have one child, and one baby! and how hard it is!

Tiggiwinkle Sat 29-Mar-08 21:56:12

Putthat-Mine were definitely not all easy pregnancies! I had pre-eclampsia with DS1; DS3 was born at 32 weeks after premature rupture of membranes; DS4 was born at 34 weeks for the same reason. I had all kinds of problems with DS5, the main one being that my platelet level dropped to dangerous levels and I was in and out of hospital with that. But I still loved being pregnant!

Oblomov Sat 05-Apr-08 15:31:39

So is Juuule, the winner?
I think of her when I think of football teams grin ?

MissPaulaYates Sat 05-Apr-08 15:43:14

MissPaulaYates Sat 05-Apr-08 15:43:58

EmmaKn Tue 08-Apr-08 13:50:29

Daughters play football too

and is no-one worried about global warming- I've just heard the best thing we can do to combact the end of the planet is stick to 2 kids each and it does make sense

YAP Tue 08-Apr-08 14:01:42

Brave post, EmmaKn. I have only 2 kids but would love another. DH says we are too old at 40 and 44. There must be a few older mums and dads out there especially with some of the large age gaps.
