Hello all, I'm new but I've been lurking around for ages! We are a family of 7. We'll be moving soon from a rented property to our own house!
We have NO white goods! I've been reading and reading and I'm now cross eyed with over information! And I'm still as confused as when I started!
Does anyone have any recommendations for
Washing machine
Dryer
Fridge
Chest freezer
I would so appreciate your advice,
Thank you so much

Mines a 7kg.
There's 4 of us and that's plenty big enough! I can get loads in and handy as you can add bits that you've forgotten after wash starts. Always smells lovely and fresh and isnt noisy either.
I've had it 6 months now.
And for a drier get a condenser so you can put it anywhere Smile

LG make 10kg & 12kg machines - with your family I'd seriously consider one of those

ao.com/l/washing_machines-lg/1-6/1/?pagesize=12

I have an 8kg Bosch which is great but not quite big enough for a double duvet, for instance (& there's generally only 2-3 of us here these days)

If you contact ao.com and tell them you are interested in buying multiple appliances then they may be able to give you additional discount. I did this when refurbishing our kitchen as we were buying hob, oven and dishwasher.

I can recommend Siemens washing machine and tumble drier - ours are 11 years old. Bit more expensive to start with but not had any problems so far.

I love my Neff oven - eye level with slide and hide door.

Fridge freezer was LG - it's been ok but a few annoying things about it. The fridge drawers are a pain to clean. The freezer drawer runners are starting to crack (but it is also 11 years old!). I liked the fact that you can easily vary the shelf heights.

For washing machine I was told once to go for the cheapest model of the most expensive make!!! On the basis that nobody ever really uses the extra bells and whistles on the more expensive versions of a particular brand. But there is a big difference between the cheaper brands which use concrete as the weight in the machine and the more expensive brands which use steel. Concrete disintegrates over time which is when your machine starts jumping around? No idea if that is true or not!!

Would this help here

Oh my gosh,
thank you so much for taking the time to answer my post, I feel quite emotional! Think it's because I've never posted anything before and I wasn't really expecting such an amazing response! I'm so grateful.
FST: I didn't know you could get a discount by contacting ao, I even considered trying to sign up to review products for them but they want you to make a review of something you own and put it on YouTube, so far out of my comfort zone! So that was the end of that bright idea! I will also look at the cheapest models of the more expensive, although not sure we can stretch that far!
LDS: think you right, I would love a massive machine, especially if I could get our super king duvet into it!
Sanasa: the new house has a tiny utility room that I'm already in love with, thankfully that means we can consider condenser or vented Smile

Family if 6 here.

If I had the space, I would have two washing machines.

It's the time a wash cycle takes that is the biggest problem for me. The high spin (most economical) wash cycle takes 3h30m on my 9kg washer.

So while I usually only do 1-2 loads per day, some days I do extra. But I am physically constrained by the fact that 3 loads of washing per day takes almost 12h. This is unfeasible so I use less economical but quicker wash cycles of I'm having a big laundry day.

My dream (sad, I know) would be two washing machines.

Another vote here for Samsung Add wash. I have the 12kg model and I love it!

I'm awake in the middle of the night feeding the baby, gave me time to look up the 12kg Samsung addwash, it's a £1000!
Anyone know where to get it cheaper or another machine as good but not so bank breaking?

12kg definitely seems the way to go though. There always seems to be so much laundry to do with 5 small children! Hopefully if we got a 12kg machine I could do less washes, a girl can only dream!

We were 7 and we have at this house two separate fridge freezers - one in kitchen one in utility room. One is 30 years old by the way and still going strong! I have my late father's washing machine - he died about 10 years ago. So don't assume new stuff is always needed or is the best.

My sister has 2 washing machines but I think I just do less washing. I was joking to her we are dirtier which is probably true. I don't do all these separate washes people do. I never buy anything that needs ironing. If the teenage boys want to buy something white they have to wash it themselves. I don't buy hand wash items - I gave a teenager a lesson in hand washing yesterday and I'm certainly not doing it.

I've never had a chest freezer. My parents had one and an upright freezer and did a lot of buying in bulk but I don't.

My drier was one of the 1m which had to be fixed due to a potential fire hazard/ explosion fault so will not be recommending that!

Their other big ones are also close to £1000!

Yeah it was expensive, I bought on 0% credit card, hoping it will last ten years like my last hotpoint did.

John Lewis has 3 10kg machines for under £400, their customer service is really good and I also trust the models they stock as I think they will only stock fairly decent stuff.

Some online retailers will give you a discount if you purchase 3 items as once, even if they don't mention it I'd ask

Thank you so much for the recommendations, I've looked at them all and it seems promising.
Ali: I was considering the whole 0%credit card deal. Tesco doing 30months 0%credit so the Samsung might be reachable after all.
Lucky: I don't separate washing into colours cause I don't have time, I praise the Lord for colour catchers!
Niknak: thank you I'll give different ones a call and ask
FST: I'll check that out
LDS: it's insane how much these things cost!

Anybody got a stand alone fridge? I've been thinking that a big fridge might be just what we need.

We've got a fridge freezer but wished we'd got a big fridge

I think my worry is will we actually use the space of a big stand alone fridge. I know at Christmas it'll make sense, but what about the rest of the year?

Please also think about your energy ratings on things and go for the best you can - it really impacts on your bills especially with a drier.

I would also say if you can't get multiple purchase discounts online then try a local firm who may appear to cost more but the service is so much better.

The insurances you get I don't think are worth the money these days as you are paying for the cost of a new machine almost - but if you can stash a fair amount to one side in case something goes wrong then do.

Personally I might buy a second hand dryer and dishwasher, a new fridge freezer and washing machine (second hand tends to smell) then say in 6 mths or so look at new ones of the ones you had second hand - there might be some chance of staggering them not working in the long run and having to replace them all at once

Sorry been at work all day so just seen the thread.
RB68: I've been looking at energy ratings and how much each machine costs to run, when we move we need to reduce our outgoings
alanna1: thank u for the bosch recommendation, I've read good things about them
Juggles6: would you mind telling me what model it is please? I'd love to know if it fits a super king duvet? I'm hoping to never have to trek to the launderette on the bus with our duvets ever again!Smile

Hi juggles6, hope you enjoyed your hols. Can your machine wash a super king duvet please? This is my yardstick for what's gonna suit us. I really want to be able to wash the duvet at home! Thanks again Smile
