7-seaters? It's another car one!

We have loved our 6 seater Honda FR-V, but it is no more.

Need to buy another car urgently but can't decide what to get.

We need 6 seats most of the time, and enough boot space for 6 people.
Only 2 kids left in child seats, but the older ones now need leg room and foot room. (How dare they!) So I can no longer pack the footwells.

Are the van/minibus 8 seater vehicles more expensive to run than things like the galaxy or alhambra?

I have no idea about tax, fuel efficiency and whether to still buy diesel.
We can't afford anything too new.

What do you drive and what would you recommend?
