I know we have talked about this before but I am sure there are new people here since then. What would be your upper age limit for that last baby?

For me, 40 I think. I'm 21w pregnant with DC5 now, and am 37. I'm finding it so much harder than the first 4 - MUCH more tired (despite having more help and no babies/toddlers to look after). We'll consider one more after this one but then I'm absolutely done grin

34 I think. I'm 29 and pregnant with my second (first at 26) I wanted to have them youngish though.

For me it was 32. I had my first at 19 and my fourth at 32 (she's 13 months now). I don't want any more as I'll have just over 30 years raising children by the time my youngest is 18. That's enough for me personally so I have stopped at four aged 32.

It depends on circumstances. I'm 36 and thinking of maybe going for a 4th so I'd be 37/38 but if I was early 40s and just getting started I wouldn't let my age stop me!

Would agree with PP who said 40.. Pregnant with no.2 and will be 37 when this baby is born having young children is just so tiring...

Also you have to think in the future will be in my 50's with teenagers and be nice to think will one day enjoy being grandparents...

People always say 0-2 years older than the age they had their last!

TheyreMadITellYouMaaaad Thu 20-Aug-15 20:30:06

For me it was 40. Had my 1st at 33, and didn't set a stopping age until ttc no3 - who only just made it in under the wire! 40 was the right age to stop. I was very tired, the pregnancy was utterly draining (though the labour was the easiest) and I started menopause a couple of years later.

fabuLou Thu 20-Aug-15 20:35:11

was going to say 34, had last and 4th then. But actually thing 39/40 if I hadn't of had 4th by then.

29, although this will be my last at 26. I'm terrified of losing my body.

notaprincessbutaqueen Thu 27-Aug-15 10:55:22

31 for me. I will be 31 when bump arrives. this is it! grin
but each to their own, i know many people who haven't had their first at 31, never mind their 4th and final one. As long as you are producing eggs, can fall pregnant and carry a baby healthily then there is no reason to stop if you don't want to x

Just been reading about a chief exec of M & S. She is 50 and pregnant with her first baby. Where does she get the energy!!

ThereIsIron Thu 27-Aug-15 15:31:08

40 tops, ideally 36.

inmyshoos Thu 27-Aug-15 15:33:21

i think as long as you feel healthy and fit, have the energy and are able to conceive then I think up to mid to late 40's ok.

I am 39, have 3 and would like a 4th. I haven't got the energy i had when i had my dc in my late 20's/early 30's but I would absolutely love one more little bundle!

inmyshoos Thu 27-Aug-15 15:34:23

Are you thinking about it onlyoranges?

loveandsmiles Fri 04-Sep-15 17:23:37

I've just had my 6th DC at age nearly 48! Wouldn't rule out another but guessing I will definitely be too old nowgrin

onlyoranges Fri 04-Sep-15 19:14:50

Oh love how wonderful! I wish I had had more got 4 and would have loved 6 but at 45 thought it was a bit late. I love your post!! How are your energy levels? How old is your eldest?

Playnicelyforfiveminutes Fri 04-Sep-15 19:19:37

I am early thirties, I can't imagine stopping at any age! I don't think age should factor, if you want one and can have one - go ahead!

I might be missing something obvious... I know there is a higher chance of problems with the eggs as you age, but screening can catch those, right?

Good luck smile

Playnicelyforfiveminutes Fri 04-Sep-15 19:20:49

lovesandsmiles how totally fabulous!!!!

quesadillas6 Fri 04-Sep-15 19:24:26

36. I'm currently 36 and pregnant. And I'm done, most definitely. Had I not been pregnant yet, I'd have stretched it to 39/40 I think.

Playnicelyforfiveminutes Fri 04-Sep-15 19:26:08

I actually think that only a few people can be a mother to lots... Not many want to keep going after 2/3... I think that if you are one of those people who want more, you almost ought to crack on and have them without trying to talk yourself out of it!

loveandsmiles Sat 05-Sep-15 08:30:44

only thank you for your kind words - so many people are negative about big families. My DCs ages are - 13, 10, 7, 5, 2 and 4 weekssmile - I had the last 4 in my forties!! Energy levels good - I think as long as you are fit and healthy you are just as able as a younger mum.

playnicely my consultant was surprised I got naturally pregnant (oldest natural conception he has dealt with!) but then went on to say it wouldn't have happened if my body was unable to cope with it - I did have all the screening tests and was monitored more than usual but thankfully all went well - I know I am very lucky.

It depends I think. Some people feel worn out or like they need a rest and to not run around by 40, some feel like that later. As long as I'm able to spend as much time messing around and have as much energy to take them to do things, I have no real age limit personally.

My parents had quite a few kids, my eldest siblings had my parents at their younger ages and they had me while they were older and honestly did more with me than many of my friends young parents. My dad would take me for bike rides often and my mum would run around in the park with us. It's not about age, because it really depends on the person.
