Question for those with room-sharers/multiples...cots to beds

Hi all, just after your experiences please.

DS1 moved from a cot to bed at 2.2yrs. no problems, slept straight through, no getting out at all, and still (now 4yrs) waits and calls from his bed in the morning to get up.

DTs are 20m and I'm starting to think about furniture/beds and decorating their 'big boy and girl' room for later in the year as I planned to move them at the same age but my mum has just asked me if I would be better waiting as there are 2 of them in the room they may not stay in bed.

DTs sleep through and go to bed very easily, self settling etc. They are in sleeping bags and neither currently gets out of the cot or has made any attempt to so far - all of this the same as DS1.

So any experiences of moving from cots to beds with more than one child in the room? was it harder? were they more prone to getting out of bed/messing about/playing etc? Just to add, DS1 was moved as we needed the cot back, no such need this time (unfortunately).

Any thoughts or experiences welcome!!

We have 4DC, 3 of them share at the moment. About to move 3DS (2yrs) in with the other boys 9Yrs & 7YRs. DD (10yrs) is going into 3DS room.

When we moved the others into share we normally do a week in a cot so they can't get out and disturb the other kids. After we know they are settled in the room change we change to a bed. We have never had a problem. Although I do have to admit I am slightly nervous this time due to the age gap!

Good luck.

23 months between my oldest 3 and they all shared a room. Each of them went into a bed when they were potty trained at between 18 and 20 months, so they could get up for the toilet. Didn't have any problems with them getting up, but didn't have any toys in their bedroom.

I have three in one room, and taking the bars off the cots of my dts (so basically moving them to a bed) made no difference on one dt, although the other did a bit of scampering. I was able to find a way around it though, and it was not a major issue.
By the sounds of it yours sound quite calm at bedtime, so although the change causes excitement for a while, I think just staying calm and sticking to a routine will get you through that phase.

On the other hand...if it ain't broke why fix it...keep them in their cots until you absolutely have to move them!

thanks all.

we are going to wait a bit longer, maybe until they are 2 and half or similar. we have also decided that we are going to put DS1 in with the DTs at the same time. We're going to get some bunks and DS1 is very excited about the idea. This way DS1 gets used to sharing (as he will eventually have to share with DS2) and DD doesn't have to leave her twin until she is ready, so potentially up to puberty if she wants.

Plus it frees up DS1s room to be a nursery hopefully in a year or so!!

I hope that as we have a really good bedtime routine and all 3 sleep well we will be able to make a fairly smooth transition.

we have found some fab bunks with the lower bunk at floor level so the top bunk is only mide-sleeper height and we hope it is going to work really well.

so I have about 6 months or so to plan the decorating! thinking an underwater theme!!

Waiting sounds like a good plan. Do you have a link for the bunks please?
