Eating badly during ivf cycle - help 😭

Hi all, can I ask if anyone has had a successful ivf while eating not great during the cycle? I’ve just started stimming and I know I should be cutting out sugar and upping protein but I’m finding it difficult.

Today I had a protein yoghurt and fruit along with granola for breakfast, but then a ham and cheese toastie and x2 small kitkats for lunch and just had some chocolate with a cup of decaf tea. I’ve also had x2 Decaf coffees with x2 sugars in each.

I haven’t had any alcohol for a month now once I got word ivf was restarting and haven’t had any caffeine either for around 6 months and I take my supplements but I read that I should be having no snacks, protein shakes and no sugar to maximise my chances and I don’t know why I’m sabotaging myself when I want this to work 😭😭😭😭😭

I also put on 5lbs during lockdown - so in now officially overweight and I can’t seem to motivate myself to lose it.

Don't worry I'm sure I've read somewhere that actually there is very little evidence that diet effects IVF success - being overweight, drinking, smoking and even Diet Coke/Coke Zero yes but overall diet no. I'd either switch to full fat milk or drink a protein shake to up your protein levels but other than that sounds like you are doing great

My best cycles so far in terms of blastocyst quality have been the two straight after new year and then January off the back of a very gluttonous Xmas and new year (who am I kidding Xmas eating started around November time when tins of roses were two for £8!) x

Hi I had a round of ivf through jan/feb and I didn’t eat the best. Never had a really good diet anyway tbh. I upped my water intake a lot, and liked to have scrambled eggs for breakfast everyday, but I also had the odd takeaway. I did cut out cola but I was never a big drinker of it anyway. Glass of pop here and their is not going to affect the outcome though. The ivf worked and I’m currently 17 weeks pregnant. I just ate ok and had folic acid. Don’t worry and just go with the flow of it nothing you eat or drink will determine whether it will work or not good luck x

Oh and a glass of milk a day I read somewhere some clinics actually advise it x

Sorry forgot to add lol I also went to a New Year’s Eve party and drank loads! Then started the ivf around 2 weeks later I worried it would affect it but odviously didn’t. Your diet doesn’t sound too bad sounds a lot like mine tbh x

Thanks all. I was really starting to beat myself up over the food. Like if I want a baby why can’t I eat what I have to. Sad I will add in a pint of milk a day and reduce down treats and hopefully that will be ok. Today’s plan is reduced sugar granola, protein yoghurt and fruit, then baked potato with tuna and sweet corn, then salmon, broccoli and baby potatoes so hopefully that’s not too bad and will make up for the kitkats yesterday!!! 🙈 thanks for the support.

I am feeling like this but I figure stress is worse than sugar so hand me the chocolate!

When I did the FET transfer I had chicken soup pretty much every day with garlic and ginger. Who knows if it worked but I did give birth to a healthy child.

For egg collection I eat absolute shit.

I did however have weekly acupuncture sessions ,
I've no idea if it helped or not but I did also cut caffeine. I was never a huge drinker anyway so alcohol wasn't hard to cut out

Thanks ladies! Glad I’m not alone. I’m on Instagram and everyone is eating ten different types of veg and having smoothies made of spiriluna and protein. I am eating good meals and only 3 times a day - no snacks - but I’ve had chocolate twice a day after lunch and dinner. I somehow can’t help myself... Sad

Please dont worry, im positive it really wont make much of a difference. I was told that water is very important though. Drink as much as you can without being silly of course. Stay hydrated. Its really good for the womb lining and helping the body work properly. Its so hard not to stress about the small stuff when you are pumped full of mind altering drugs. Your diet also sounds fine to me. Please dont beat yourself up. Good luck x

I worried about the same during my cycle - the drugs made me have mad sugar cravings and I gave in a lot. I'm 19 weeks pregnant now so it didn't seem to negatively affect my outcome. It's a tough process so if having chocolate makes you a little happier and less stressed then I think it's probably a good thing overall 😃

(I did make sure I drank enough water and no alcohol though)

These posts make me feel a little better. I'm good about including fresh fruit and veg in my diet but I have a massive sweet tooth! Hopefully starting my second cycle of icsi soon. I usually have half a cup of coffee twice a week when I start early at work.
Planning to start including more beans/chickpeas/eggs/lentils in my diet but I agree with others there is no guarantee overhauling your diet will be successful and it might lead to more stress which is likely to be more detrimental. Xx

Glad it's not just me, I'm on day 5 of stims and not eating well at all, but my diet is never particularly good.

I'm not overweight and I don't drink alcohol, but other than that I'm a disaster.

Trying to drink more water as I'm getting headaches from the drugs but that's about it.

I used to worry about this a lot - til my doctor said the only things proven to affect egg /embryo quality / pregnancy rates are age (which you can't do anything about) and ovarian /uterine environment - which your Dr will control will the medication you are on.

Worrying about your diet will prob do more harm than what you are eating! IVF is stressful enough, don't make it more so by beating yourself up about your diet!
