Short luteal phase

Wondering if anyone knows about short luteal phase please. I track my cycles and have noticed that I have shortish cycles of 27 days and from ovulating to day 1 is generally 10 days or maybe less. For example I see peak on ovulation tests today and I expect to come on 27/28 of the month. Does anyone know if there is any link to progesterone maybe , and if it is possible to get pregnant with short phase. I have had two failed ivf cycles and started bleeding early on both (one was a chemical) , therefore trying to see if there is any connection x

Sorry about your 2 failed cycles Flowers I’ve had short LP at times. The doctors don’t think anything of it. However in an ivf cycle don’t you take progesterone after the embryo is transferred, so I’m not sure if it could be low progesterone in that case?

I’ve heard people have had success taking vitamin B6 for short LP.

Hi, I consistently had a 9 day LP, apparently my progesterone was normal, which I never really agreed with as I can’t see how the test is reliable as you are supposed to test 7 days after you ovulate, and with that I was testing 2 days before I was due my period?!
I was put on 800mg cyclogest a day (both inserted in the evening) when I had my cycle of IVF (fresh transfer) We were so so lucky that we got a BFP and I continued with the cyclogest until I ran out, which was about 8 weeks. The clinic were happy with me finishing at 7 weeks pregnant, but said i may as well continue until I ran out.
I did have some bleeding at 6-7 weeks from a subchorionic heamatoma, and they told me to do the cyclogest PR from then on. The bleeding stopped and I’m currently 13 weeks.
I would ask at your next appointment about progesterone levels and if they would consider the link between short LP and failing IVF cycles. They might put you on a higher dose?
Good luck x

Hi @kikisparks , @Embri

How are you both doing? Thank you for taking the time to respond to me

My clinic did put me progesterone , cyclogest , but I have always started bleeding before test date. Apparently I might not be absorbing them well and my consultant has said they will test my levels before and day of transfer (didn’t do this before) and give me injections - so additional dose but hopefully absorb better for me. I’m praying this helps !

@Embri congrats on the pregnancy! How are you doing? Hope you and bump are doing ok xx

That’s good they’re going to do more to tests and if necessary treat your progesterone levels. I’m ok thanks, in my TWW from trying naturally but it’s been 3 and a half years so I’m not really holding out any hope, just waiting hoping for the clinic to reopen as it shut just before my first ivf cycle.

Hi all, I'm in the same situation and I'm convinced that we cannot get pregnant due to short LP. I've been taking letrozole for 6 months, my consultant said it will fix the luteal phase. I have managed to convince him to prescribe progesterone but my body didn't absorb it. Every morning I had a diarrhea ( sorry TMI) and AF showed up before testing.
I have since spoken to another consultant and he said he is following a different protocol and he would suggest a Hsg injection to support the LP.
I'm having a consultation with my original Dr next week so will try to convince him to try the injection. X

Hi, I had a short literal phase and struggled to conceive DC2 (secondary infertility). My suggestion that there was a problem with my literal phase was constantly ignored and like PP I was told I had normal progesterone. Anyway long story short, was waiting for IVF and had paid for private tests, Consultant commented on my thyroid (below TSH 2.5) but still considered “normal” and prescribed thyroxine. If you’ve not had it checked, it is worth getting this looked into as I had short cycles (23-27 days) and seemingly thyroid issues can cause this and issues with implantation.
