Has anyone had any experience of a Day 2 transfer? Going in tomorrow and really nervous as I always read of day 5 blastocysts x

Hey, sorry I've got no experience on a day 2 transfer but can only assume day 2 transfer is really good as it must have got to the blastocyst stage already, did they say this was the case? I've only ever had day 5 transfer xx

Day 2 transfers used to be the norm according to my embryologist when I asked once and only really changed to day 5 when clinics starting upping drug doses to get more eggs so by taking them to day 5 means that they have a clearer idea which ones have the best chance of success

Day 2 won't be a blastocyst

If you only have one or two fertilised eggs in the running there is almost no point going to day 5 - some eggs to better in the uterine environment

Just seen on another thread that you only have 1 viable fertilised embryo after collecting 4 eggs. That the most likely reason to transfer on day 2 - they won't want to risk waiting until day 5 and it not getting to blastocyst and you having nothing to transfer.

(Albeit I've never really understood this thinking - as if it it isn't going to make blastocyst in the lab then chance of it making blastocyst in the uterus isn't great either)

Taking them to blastocyst is a selection method so with 1 or 2 embryos it's not required so better to just transfer, if it's going to make a blast it will in you or in the lab.

I know people want a blast as they hear it's better and the chances are higher but that's just as it's proven itself to be a good embryo, your embryo won't be comprised by being transferred early. Good luck

I only had one viable embryo and had a Day 3 transfer. It worked!

Best of luck.

Got a call this morning to say they won’t transfer as there has been no movement in the embryo since yesterday. Heartbroken I don’t know how I can go through a fourth round of IVF

Hi Sunshine015 I feel for you as the same has happened to me in the past. Getting a call on transfer day to say don't come in is heartbreaking. I did have one to transfer but I found out today it didnt work so I'm feeling down too. Infertility sucks but we have to pick ourselves up (once we're ready), brush ourselves off and try again (or commit to a decision to stop). I'm having one more go. I hope you do too once this CV crisis is over with. Virtual hugs Flowers
