Infertility

Four eggs :(

Hi All.
I am now on my third cycle of IVF and have just come home from egg collection.
I am grateful I have been able to get to this stage considering what is going on. But I can’t help but feel distraught.
In my first attempt we had 11eggs and a Day 3 transfer resulting in a BFN as they were poor quality. On my second attempt we switched to a short protocol, had 8 eggs with a day 5 transfer of embryos failing to reach blastocyst and another BFN.
This time we changed our diets, introduced the vitamins which have been recommended in “it starts with an egg”, had Accupunture treatments. So upset we are now left with 4 eggs which will be frozen straight after fertilisation.

I think its easy to get caught up in numbers but really numbers are irrelevant. Cliches like quality v quantity and it only takes one are cliches because of how true they are.
I was disappointed with 6 eggs but 4 fertilised and 2 went on to become 5 day blasts, 1 is DD and the other is frozen awaiting the covid crazy to go away.
Good luck hopefully it's third time lucky for you.

I had 5 eggs at collection, only 3 were viable and out of those 3, all 3 fertilised. Two become 5 day blasts - one being a fresh transfer which unfortunately didn’t work out for me and one is waiting for me in the freezer. I was told by my clinic that 6 is the average number and they were very positive about having 5. As the previous poster said, it really is more about quality than quantity so please don’t feel upset... one of those 4 could end up being your baby! Fingers crossed for you in the future xx

I have pcos and produced 32 eggs in my last cycle and they dwindled down to 4 useable embryos. Two failed, one produced my DS, one is still frozen and probably won’t work either.

DC is healthy had fwo follicles on each ovary, produced 4 eggs, 4 embryos, first transfer produced a baby, and they have been told the others are just as good and so they may well get babies with all of them.

I had similar to your previous cycle and had 13 eggs but 5 fertilised and by day 5 I had one left. Which has miracously Stuck, I really think it is quality over quantity.
I have seen plenty of Times where one lady has had 20+ eggs collected and only a few making it to embryos and not working. Then have seen 5 or less eggs and one being the golden one.
Don’t be dis heartened by the number they could be great quality! Good luck x

1 fertilised both times

My baby is 8 month asleep in my arms.. it really did only take 1... good luck

I believe quality over quantity anyway xx

2 eggs 2 weeks ago. 1 became a day 3 embryo. GOT A BFP on Friday.
Definitely quality, you got high numbers of eggs last time and it didn’t work, hopefully these are great quality and 4 isn’t bad x

I only had 3 eggs, so all fertilised and put back as I was 40. DS is now 12!

First cycle 12 eggs, got 3 to blast and each was transferred as singles and had 3 x BFN

Second cycle 14 eggs but poor fertilisation so only 2 day 3 transferred together and BFN

Third cycle 3 eggs, 2 fertilised and frozen on day 1. Thawed out last month and transferred together and had my very first BFP last week.

Smaller numbers got me my positive result ❤️

Ivf at 31 with Extended stims, 6 out, 4 fertilised, had 2 transferred on day 5, (I prayed one would stick) and my DTs are now 2. I too believe quality over quantity. Good luck 🌷

My first attempt was cancelled before egg collection due to a poor response.

My second attempt resulted in six eggs collected. Four fertilised and all four became blastocysts. One of those blastocysts is now my two-year-old DD.

For my friend it was third time lucky. Her first attempt didn’t result in many eggs. Her second resulted in poor quality embryos. Her third cycle gave her both of her DCs (one fresh transfer and one FET).

Ultimately, all it takes is one good quality egg and some luck. Fingers crossed for you.

I know I’m just scared as I have a history of bad quality eggs. Was just distraught that I changed so much in my lifestyle this time and have ended up with less eggs Confused

Unfortunately mine didn’t develop past fertilisation. I am distraught. Really don’t know what else I can do
This cycle I followed “it starts with an egg” changed my lifestyle, introduced vitamins and supplements and did Accupunture. To end up in a worse position :(
My consultant is suggesting donor eggs now, but I am 31 so not quite ready for that.
If anyone has any advice on what to do about slow developing embryos or embryos that arrest that would be great

Hey @Sunshine015 I'm so sorry you've had such a shitty time recently, and the awful part of this is that it's hard to know even for the experts what the problem is. How long did you make the lifestyle/supplement/acupuncture changes before your egg collection? What's the reason for you having IVF? Have either of you previously had children?

31 is young to be considering donor eggs when you don't seem to have a problem producing them, but lots of women your age have donor eggs when they have premature ovarian failure and have their children that way.

Ultimately I guess it depends how many times you have the money to try this with your own eggs and what having donor eggs means to you at the moment.

I'm sorry I can't shed any light, my issues with IVF were different from yours but I hope you find some answers xx

so so sorry to hear such devastating news.. my first cycle of icsi ended in a miscarriage at 10weeks and that cycle I changed my lifestyle.. diet, pregnacare food drink etc... the second cycle I though sod it.. I’m changing nothing.. I ate what I want when I want.. drank coke (love it) took no supplements except folic acid & vit d... it’s boots own brand (recommendation from my ivf place) I even smoked (it’s had to stop especially when I just had a miscarriage at 10weeks) also I had my ivf meds’ put to the max does and my baby is now 8month old.. if I was to do it again I wouldn’t change anything in my life.. good luck with the future x 🍀

@MrsC2018 thank you for your reply.
We made the changes for three months.
We had been trying for two years and the NHS tests concluded unexplained fertility, I wasn’t convinced so went private and the consultant found I had severe endometriosis and operated on me. He seemed to think my tubes may have been damaged and suggested IVF was our only option.
Xx
