AMH level - help

I've just received my amh level of 9.5pmol/l. I'm 36, is this result OK for my age, or a bit low?

It's a little low - I am 36 with AMH of 12.9 and I was told that it was slightly low for my age.

That being said it's only a concern if it's really really low like 1 - it's only used by the clinic to gauge how you might respond to stims - with my AMH I've gotten between 12-14 eggs each cycle and I wasn't on the highest possible dose

Thanks for your reply @itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted thought it was a bit low. Might also explain my recurrent miscarriages.

Had to get the results via Pals as no one bothered to contact me and I don't have any type of follow up scheduled, so no one has explained the result, it just says on the email 'which you can be treated with' which I'm guessing is our ivf referral.

@VenusStarr
AMH doesn't have anything to with egg quality - that's more likely due to be age or chromosomal issues - things difficult to test for unfortunately x

Oh doesn't it? I thought it did link to egg quality @itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted still feeling a bit flat. I know it's not terrible though.
I'm having the nk cells biopsy tests - trying to rule things out or hope for answers.

Amh is egg quantity. I had an amh of 1.44 at 28. I was told that whilst I didn't have many eggs they would be of a good quality due to my age. Age is the factor that matters most for egg quality so I would have thought that you would be ok.

If you go for ivf, I had 4 cycles and 2 children so it is possible with low amh. Just look very carefully at clinic success rates as they vary so much!

Mine was 9.2 at 35. I was told it was the low end of normal. Your clinic should choose a protocol more suited to lower amh. I did short protocol, got 20 eggs but likely a number were poor quality as only 7 fertilised. However we ended up with 4 blasts which we were thrilled with. I’m currently 25 weeks and the other 3 are in the freezer. Good luck!

Thank you both @Betsyboo87 @whensmynexthol1day I do feel quite sad about it all, which is shit as I'd got into a more hopeful place.

We're uncertain whether to go for ivf just yet as I've been conceiving (after 18 months of not), but am losing the pregnancies. We can start with ivf funding soon, but am having private recurrent miscarriage tests. I really don't want to go to the main hospital either.

Glad your ivf experiences worked out :)

Sorry to hear about the miscarriages. I presume that Avenue is one you need to explore first as you don't want to put yourself through ivf if there is another underlying issue. Good luck. It's so hard isn't it- I received my amh news by letter and will never forget the morning I spent sobbing my heart out. - why they can't ring you I don't know!

Thank you @whensmynexthol1day Mine was in an email from a pals advisor! Rubbish. I've sent an email back saying it's not good enough.
My dh is very pragmatic and doesn't really understand why I'm so upset. It just feels like an uphill struggle x

OP- my amh was 2.8 age 34! Since then I’ve been pregnant 3 times and had 2 live births- including an Ivf birth. It’s nothing to do with egg quality.

Thank you @Ilikeviognier that's reassuring, thanks for sharing :)

Mine was 8.2 age 31 - had 2 rounds of ICSI and got 20 and 22 eggs! Not great quality though (probably over stimmed) but gave birth to my DS after round 2.

Now pregnant with a surprise natural conception and 18 weeks!

AMH is a guide but how you respond to ivf is what tells you what egg quality is really like.

Thank you @hoping2018 and congratulations! :)

We've been ttc for 2.5 years, I've been pregnant 3 times naturally but miscarried each time. My recurrent mc tests are so far normal so feeling like ivf might help us get a bit more understanding about the quality of my eggs. Just need the clinic to reopen...

Hey @GreyC 👋 good to hear from you. I'm OK. Resigned to the fact there's nothing we can do at the moment - we're not ttc which is hard but the right decision for us. Keeping safe working at home.

How are you? I lost the old thread but I have been thinking of you. X
