Mumps - Sperm

Hi, myself and my partner were both vaccinated but last year we caught mumps, you may have seen on the news it's making a return.

We have been TTC since August, I caught in September but miscarried at 5 weeks.

I'm worried that mumps has had an affect on his sperm count but I'm also aware we've not been trying for a year yet.

Just wanted to know if anyone else has had this with their partner? Thanks xxx

I think mumps only has an impact on male fertility if the testicles are directly affected, and even then quite rarely. I think the NHS website has more info www.nhs.uk/conditions/mumps/complications/

Thanks @MissHoney85 - partner had no issues "down there" when he had mumps so I hope that's a good sign and also we caught in September which unfortunately led to a miscarriage, just hoping it hasn't lowered his sperm count xx

Hi there my husband and I have been ttc since June. He had mumps when he was 17/18 really badly and was placed in quarantine for a week. We had his sperm results back and it is half the concentration it should be and probably why we haven't conceived yet. His was a severe case of mumps, however definitely get a sperm test done it is very easy and results are within 2 weeks if on the NHS. Fingers crossed we both get babies soon 🤞🤞😊😊

Thank you @MrsSta really appreciate your comment xx without being too graphic did his testicles swell during the mumps? My partners didn't, so not sure if that makes a difference? Can I please ask what your next steps are now that you know his sperm count isn't the highest? Xx

Of course, I did want to mention about his testicles but felt it may have been tmi, yes one of his testicles swelled up (according to him, I didn't know him at 17) and is still slightly bigger than the other even today, 15years later. So that to me was always in the back of my head that it could potentially be a problem. So apparently sperm concentration is something like 1015 and his is 108 so nearly half, I reckon the affected testicle is not producing anything IMO. The doc has referred him to a urologist, we are also speaking to a fertility nutritionist who has a good track record with female and male fertility. I went on another post and there are options to retrieve the sperm in two ways if it should come to that. I've also just for my own benefit had a full hormone blood test (privately through medicheck, would recommend if you are interested) xx
