I read It Starts with an Egg and was stunned by the effect chemicals in beauty products and plastics etc has on hormone levels and fertility.

I have the Yuka app, with which you can scan barcodes of beauty products and it flags up any issues. I found most of my day to day products were "bad", with high level of endocrine disrupting ingredients.

I have been trying to replace my products with better options, but it's been hard to find ones which are affordable or effective!

I thought it could be good if we had a thread where we can recommend products.

So, I'll start;

Deodorants - having tried a couple of Holland and Barretts, I found they weren't very effective and I was worried that I was smelly! Best I have found by far is Sanex dermo invisible stick.

Bodywash - I was shocked that Original Source was "bad". Sanex again, is a good option and is not too expensive.

Moisturiser - I have really struggled with this. I'm currently using Garnier Organics lavender moisturiser, but I'm not loving the feel of it. Any other recommendations would be great.

Myself & DH have been using Ben & Anna Deoderants - ordered from amazon.

I’ve stopped wearing nail varnish and perfume.

Using Weelda moisturiser and ‘Love Beauty and Planet’ Shower gel, shampoo and conditioner.

Makeup I’ve had no luck with as it just slides off and is bad quality so I’m using normal makeup but using Weelda moisturiser and body lotion and using Neal’s Yard makeup Remover and eye makeup remover.

We got glass tubs instead of plastic for our lunches and wooden spatulas instead of our plastic ones. Using Ecover dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and laundry tablets and bleach. You can get Ecover in most supermarkets now.

I also have a la Roche posay hydraphase mosituriser that is parabens free

I also asked for my family for products for Christmas and got a big set of cleanser toner moisturiser and a facial mask and peel from this brand “ to meet this criteria all products must be free from Parabens, Sulphates, Propylene Glycol and Mineral Oil and then they are proudly stamped with the Kaeso Leaf of Approval.” Kaeso is the brand.

@Hopein2020 I've also ditched nail varnish and perfume, along with hairspray and dry shampoo!

I'll check out Weelda. Trouble often is cost. It stings to pay a fortune for a bottle of shower gel, when you can pick up another for a pound.

Also agree on make up - I can't find anything.

Garnier Micellar water is an excellent cleanser and eye make up remover.

Re cost it is definitely an extra expense. I am hoping that it’ll be worth it and only for a while before going back to normal stuff.

I read this book and switched to body shop products after reading somewhere it doesn't have a lot of the toxins of other brands, but I just scanned the moisturiser I have and it says bad 😒 I thought it was too good to be true to find a whole brand that was good.

Hello,

I use Faith in Nature body wash and shampoo. You can sometimes get deals on Amazon.

Using Faith in Nature liquid washing for clothes and Ecover washing up liquid.

I'm using the moisturiser she recommends called Honey Skin - also from Amazon.

Green People face wash but I think Burts Bees is pretty good to use too.

A mix of Simple anti persperant and Neals Yard deodorant.

Mainly using my normal make up except I splashed out on Chantecaille foundation, which is very pricey but works well.

I do miss my luxury shampoos and nail varnish but figure it's not forever so in the short term I can live without them!

You can use coconut oil as a make up remover and moisturiser. Very effective. I use the aldi version. The salt of the earth spray deodarent is good from Holland and Barrett, often in the penny sale too. It doesn't stop you sweating, but it doesn't smell if that makes sense. I use a bar of soap for body wash and 'yes to' range of cleansers and serum. No idea on the makeup, I stick to regular. Hope this helps. X

The website naturissimo has a policy of screening everything they sell so it meets their natural standards - have a look at it. I find it really good because there are loads of beauty products on there and it means I can buy any and know that they're ok. Often i find the product on naturissimo then buy it cheaper on amazon.

I use Faith in Nature shampoo and conditioner. Lavera facewash, hand cream, body lotion, toothpaste and day / night cream (I really like all of their products I've used so far). Garner micelles water. Butter London nail varnish and a natural nail varnish remover I found on amazon, can't remember the brand and you have to put a bit more elbow grease in to remove it but it does work. NKD fake tan. Salt of the Earth roll on deodorant. Burt's Bees lip balm. Madara tinted moisturiser (it's SPF 30 too), I changed all my candles / diffusers to Neom ones. They have started doing beauty products too. All of my cleaning products and detergent are Method or Ecover.

Yes! Love this thread, thanks so much for starting it. I have a bunch of things that I'll add when I get home.
In the mean time I've got Weleda skin food in my handbag as a good "everything" moisturiser. I'm using it on my lips in the cold weather

Ok so I'm currently using:

Cleanser: Lovegrove Essentials Cleansing Balm (it is yummy & I love it)

Face oil: Skinirvana Beauty Oil ("Delicate" is TTC safe, not the original one) . This feels amazing and smells amazing and has a pretty bottle.

Deodorant: I love the Native Unearthed charcoal and the vanilla one. I've run out and am about to try one by a brand called Joji.

Sanitary towels: I can't believe I never considered the chemicals in these before. Have now switched to Natracare or Flo. Sainsbury's also sell some organic ones but I forgot what they're called.

Nail varnish remover: Fresh therapies from Amazon (although I can't find any chemical free nail varnish!!)

Face mask / cleanser / moisturiser / rough skin saviour: Wren & Willow Hero Balm. Seriously in love with this and just slather it on.

Body lotion: Oleo Bodycare body lotion (from a local market)

shampoo: Mogador Argon Oil Shampoo. Haven't fully checked this one out to be honest but it doesn't look like it's got lots of chemicals in.

Shower gel: Yope Sea Salt & Coconut (from local health food shop)

Im also using Hyaluronic Acid every day from La Roche Posay because I love it and don't want to give it up. I am hoping its not too bad? Also haven't managed to switch conditioner yet.

I find T K Maxx amazing for all these chemical free things. I also get the monthly Fertilibox which introduced me to a lot of what I'm using now. They have a "naughty list" of chemicals on their website.

What I really want is a really good face moisturiser or something to help my crows feet but I don't know where to start. Let me know if you know anything!

Wow! Lots of replies since I last checked.

@duckling3 I did exactly the same. Bought a Body Shop eye make up remover, and it was "bad" on Yuka. I think some of the ranges are ok though.

Several votes for Faith in Nature so I will check those out.

Are we finding all these alternatives much more expensive?

Also seems we're still on the hunt for good make up alternatives!

I know ill find it easy to add supplements but i think pretty much every beauty product i use is bad. I got the Yuka app mentioned earlier and almost everything I use came up as bad or poor!

I already struggle finding good vegan products that dont break the bank, it looks like im going to have to get the credit card out!

Olive oil soap from health food shops is great, I use Benecos nail varnish and make up (tho haven't found a good nail varnish remover!), and Rush Organics in-line do the only shampoo and conditioner bars I've found that work for me without leaving my hair lank
