Hematoma?

AliceAbsolum · 19/12/2019 21:33

I miscarried last week. 4 years, 3rd cycle, 1st bfp.

21 year old donor egg and was a great quality embryo so I'd be surprised if it was chromosomally abnormal.
Dr said the large hematoma they found was probably the reason why I miscarried.

Anyone had this? Do you know if they can be recurrent?
I won't be on aspirin next time (2x frosties in Cyprus) but I'm terrified of it happening again.

Any information or experiences really appreciated.

Hi op, I'm sorry for your loss. I've had a hematoma with all 3 pregnancies

1st very large hematoma above baby. Miscarriage at 8 weeks

2nd smaller hematoma , but also poorer quality embryo. MMC

3rd large hematoma below baby just above cervix. Bled from 6-19 weeks. Sometimes huge amounts with clots. DD born 2018

I mention the position of the hematoma as doctor told me there was some evidence that this could play a role in if the pregnancy progresses.

@bob1985 Wow! Thank you for replying.
Did anyone know why you had them? Were you on aspirin?
It must have been so scary for you.

@AliceAbsolum I never got as far as the booking appointment with the first 2.

There was discussion about aspirin for my DD (for pre eclampsia risk- history in my family). There seemed to be disagreement between doctors on if I should take it. One said yes, the other no. In the end I decided against taking it.

My DD was born prematurely (fine now) as my blood pressure was through the roof .

Apparently they are more common with Ivf pregnancies.

So I would expect another if we ever have another successful cycle.

I don't think they know what causes them. I was told 'it's just one of those things'

Goodness. What a thing to go through.

I was on aspirin and after it happened found some scary evidence that they can significantly increase the risk of hematomas. Luckily my Dr has said she doesn't want me on it next time. I just hope the aspirin was the cause, and also that the aspirin was not the reason why I managed to get a BFP after 4 years of treatment.

I know we will do the 2 more transfers of frosties whatever happens....just terrified of what could happen. Doesn't help that we froze the 4 in 2's either so I'm so scared about the risk twins brings too.

Sorry to hear of your miscarriage.
I had a hematoma which probably caused miscarriage the first time I got pregnant through ivf. The bleeding was insane and apparently the hematoma was very large.
Second pregnancy via FET I got another one with bleeding which I think started around 8 weeks - the same time as the first time around. The second time it never caused any real issues but I did bleed for a number of weeks which resulted in a constant state of panic but my twins were born 37&4 so other than bleeding it didn’t do anything.
Good luck.

Hi, I’m so sorry you had to go through but I know how you feel. I miscarried due to a large Hematoma two weeks ago.

I had a lot of bleeding at around 6+4weeks but stopped within a few hours. I had a scan the next day and it showed a strong heartbeat and the baby was measuring accurately. I was put on bed rest and no longer had any more bleeding so I assumed I was out of the ‘danger’ zone. A few weeks later at 10weeks I started bleeding and went to A&E and they confirmed the baby’s heart had stopped beating and I had a very large Hematoma just above the sac. The baby was still there so I hadn’t gone through the miscarriage yet.

I should mention that this was an IVF pregnancy, it was my 2nd FET. I was disappointed that I wasn’t given more scans or offered more advice as oppose to just ‘bed rest’. I’ve also heard that Aspirin causes Hematoma’s or shouldn’t be taken if you have one?

I have an appointment booked with my clinic after Xmas to see where I can go from here. I just can’t face this happening again.

@nimz86 That's nearly exactly my story. Except fresh transfer and no advice to rest. Was it a UK clinic?
Did you have hematomas in previous pregnancies or was this your first?

Sorry for all the questions.

It's heartbreaking to know the babies are probably genetically viable it's the body that is doing this. I hate that science doesn't know... If this happened to men I feel like we would know.

Do you have any frosties left?

Hey!

No, that’s fine ask away!! This was my first pregnancy. I’m at ABC in Harley Street. But I’m thinking of changing clinics. I had OHSS so I had to do a freeze all. My first frozen transfer I got a BFN and my 2nd frozen transfer this happened! I feel like I need answers now. I’ve been told that my embryos are very good quality so I don’t think I have any issues there. I have 8 Frosties left and to be honest if i had it my way I’d want to do my next transfer ASAP but I know I have to wait for a few more periods to let my body settle.

How about you? What clinic are you with? Have you thought about what your next steps are?

xx

@nimz86
Sorry for the late reply...Xmas.
8 frosties is amazing! Thats fab. Frozen in 1s?

I'm with Dr F at Miracle in Cyprus. 4 embryos frozen in 2s, I'm terrified of multiple pregnancy risks, but what can you do, it would be £3k a year to keep them frozen separately, and £3k for each transfer (meds, flights, etc). After paying for all this and a disastrous round at Reprofit in Czech we are running low on money.

I am going to wait for my next period and then probably start medicated FET on the cycle after that. I'd prefer a natural cycle but they don't do those. We only need to go for 3 days for FET so thats not too bad, but its a right hassle. My 1st cycle was NHS and a 20min drive away!

I'm so anxious thinking it might work...It would almost be a relief if the next transfer didn't end up as BFP...Isn't that madness, 4 years waiting and I was OVER THE MOON to see that 2nd line. Now all I feel is dread.
