Hi everyone.

I know how hard it is to find the "right" clinic for you, me and my partner have been apprehensive for months about doing the whole IVF process again at a new clinic. We live in Leeds so didnt want to travel too far due to having to fit everything in around work. We had our first consultation at ABC in Manchester yesterday and I can't express enough how pleased I am with the way they've come across already.

I meet their criteria, but due to numerous other fertility problems I thought they might be reluctant to take us on. We had our consultation with Pauline whos been in that line of work for 20 years, she literally put a positive spin on everything and gave us around a 50% chance of being successful. It might not sound a lot but it's one of those, is the cup half full or half empty type things I guess!

I just wanted to express how brilliant they were with us and I wold highly recommend for anyone whos currently in two minds. The positively and reassurance is everything to me and I can't wait to have our next round with them.xx

This is so good to hear we have our first appointment with them 7th January, I’m like you I meet the criteria but due to other issue I’m unsure if they will accept us.
Thankyou for helping me feel more confident about our choice now. xx

Hello @Needtotalkivf19 - sorry for not responding sooner. That’s great, hope the appointment goes ok and glad I made a difference to someone. Just to let you know, I have PCOS, endometriosis, no tubes, one ovary and only half a womb (unicornate uterus) so my chances are shit to be frank, but they literally accepted me with open arms and we’re so lovely! I hear a lot of things about it being shoe box IVF, however they said that if my eggs aren’t up the scratch after being on the injections, then they’ll either up my dose or keep me on the injections until my eggs are ready to be retrieved for the same fixed price of £2500. It couldn’t have gone better tbh. Keep me updated on your appointment and fingers crossed for you! Xxx

I’m sorry to hear everything seem to be against you, I also only have one ovary, one Fallopian tube which is block due scarring and hydrosalpinx (which I was told to have removed but if I’m honest I’m to scared to incase my only ovary is damaged).
I’m glad they was so positive towards you has you have as much chance has anyone else it only takes one egg. Have you been given a start date yet??
Good luck and please do keep me updated. I know it’s easier said than done but try and relax and enjoy Christmas xx

Thanks @Needtotalkivf19 - Not been given a start date yet, our nurses consultation isn't until the 9th Jan! I'm already getting so impatient about it. It all depends on my next periods too, by then I should be due another period but because I have PCOS they just come whenever they want so it could be months which is so frustrating. I'm not the most patient of people on a normal day never mind with something like this so it's very testing. Thanks so much, I will keep you updated! And hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas and new year! xxxx

Hope your well and enjoyed your Christmas, we went for our first appointment today and to my surprise we was accepted, and like you found the whole experience reassuring and positive. We go back for our treatment appointment at the end of the month, so hopefully won’t be far behind you. Let me know you get on when you go on Thursday xx

@Needtotalkivf19 - Thats brilliant news! I am so pleased for you. I will let you know, I literally can't wait to get there now, just want to start the injections and get the ball rolling again. I've just seen your other post too, it's been almost a year since we had our first round, and I feel like I've forgotten the whole process again, so I'm happy to be here for you when you need someone to talk to since we're only a couple of weeks between each other :) Literally any questions at all just shout and I'll do my best to answer, it's also nice to compare stories and experiences etc. Feel free to private message me whenever you want if you just need someone to talk to who can relate. On my first round I remember feeling really lonely, my partner is brilliant with the whole thing but sometimes it's nice to talk to someone who is in the exact same boat! Don't be alone, talk to people on here, post as much as you want and try to keep busy as much as you can, I got into a habbit of watching all sorts on Netflix because it seemed to be the only thing that took my mind off it, and cleaning the house when I felt up to it. But now a year later and I'm addicted to Netflix haha! I'm rambling now, but honestly anything at all just shout because I imagine all those negative feelings will come back for me too at some point xxxx

Is this in Wilmslow? we had a consultation with create and abc are there shoe box ivf sister company at the same location , I need to give them a call as create have quoted £6.5K but abc advertise £2500 I would like to know what is /isn't included for a difference of £4K

Ijustlikefood · 12/01/2020 21:38

Also would you mind me asking about the full process of ivf from day 1 , how often do you go for scans etc and what was your recovery time from egg collection I hear it can vary from person to person obviously, and what side effects did you suffer from? I'm hoping to not have to tell work by realise this might not be possible
Sorry this will be my first round and it's a bit of a minefield, due to partner having a child previously we didn't qualify for and nhs funding so not had any treatment yet

This is in Wilmslow, and I’m still unsure and trying to work out what different from create to abc, I know abc have a criteria you must meet but apart from that I’m not sure. I haven’t had any treatment yet, but getting our treatment plan at the end of the month so hopefully if things go to plan, we should be starting in February. I have been told at my first appointment I will start medication on the second day of my period, after around 12days of injections they will do egg collection, but will do scans and blood test every 2/3 days which will tell them more on when to do egg collection,(which I’m not looking forward to the clinics over 2 hours away)then if any fertilise 3 or 5 days later will be egg transfer .
I am also like you and didn’t qualify for nhs funding, this will be my first round so excited and scared

Hello both @Needtotalkivf19 and @ijustlikefood.

So sorry I haven't replied sooner, had so much on! The appointment went well thank you, I start treatment day 2 of my next period which all being well, will be around the second week of Feb. Due to the numerous problems I have it's rare that I have regular periods, but for the last 2 months I've been like clockwork, so I'm really hoping that for the 3rd month in a row it's the same otherwise it's a waiting game, and stressing my self out waiting for my period won't help but I just want to start now. When is your next appointment @Needtotalkivf19 ?

Hello @Ijustlikefood - This is my second round of IVF so hopefully I can answer some of your questions. My first round was funded with the NHS, I had lots of problems in the beginning so had to wait nearly a year to start treatment, then when we got the ball rolling I was on injections for about 10 days and went in for a scan every other day round about to check the progress of the eggs. After egg collection I had the same day and the day after to recover, I had it done on the Tuesday and was fine to go back to work on the Thursday. I just felt a little tired after the drugs but I'm a lightweight with anything, even with paracetamol so I knew I'd feel that way. I told work just because of the job I do it would have been difficult to constantly be in and out of work without a proper explanation, it's also helpful that my boss had to have IVF with his wife so he's really understanding. I told quite a few people on my first round because I was that excited to start, this time I'm telling as less people as possible, my two managers know and my immediate family, I haven't even shared much information with my best friends, but thats through personal choice.

This time my treatment is a little different to my first, the hormone injections are completely different, and this time I will be on the injections for as long as they see fit so that we get a decent amount of eggs. The NHS have certain deadlines and as I was on a short protocol, they weren't allowed by law to keep me on the injections for longer than 10 days. This resulted in only 4 eggs but all 4 fertilised. However only 1 survived the process which we had transferred back in but unfortunately ended in miscarriage. In my area we are only entitled to one funded round and because we had no other eggs left over this was our only shot for free. Me and my partner did months of research, we even applied for more funding through the government, it ended up in parliament and everything, our local MP was so good with us. However this got declined. We didn't' want to waste anymore time so we chose the one that kept coming out on top when we did our research. I never asked why ABC were so cheap as I didn't want to question it haha, I just know they used to be a research lab, and due to their years of research they have now been able to open a clinic on the back of all their research and knowledge which is why they are able to offer it at such a good price.

People say that ABC is a shoe box, however I have to disagree. This is because they have said I may need to be on the injections for longer than two weeks, I may even end up needing to be on a long protocol, which would change all the medication. However while I'm on the short protocol they said they may up the amount of hormone injection amounts, or put me on them longer, whatever my body needs they'll do it. And this is all included in the fixed price of 2.5k, the only extra thing we would need to pay for is embryo freezing which is about 1k more, thats if we're lucky enough to get some more to freeze.

I've only been twice, I didnt need any tests or blood tests because they have my file from my old clinic. Once I start the injections I'll probably need to go every few days for a scan, it's two hours from where we live aswell but it's worth it!! My partner is from Blackpool and I'm from Leeds, before we settled in Wakefield we used to drive up and down the M62 most days to see each other so the travelling doesn't actually phase us at all. But I can imagine how daunting it is when your not used to it. We've said that in that first week of us needing to go frequently we're going to take a few days off work and stay in a hotel near there as it's actually a lovely area too.

If you have anymore questions just let me know, or if you want to know anything about my previous history with it all I'm happy to share! Hope I've given you as much information as you need. Good luck to you both with it all xxxx

My second appointment is next week, and hopefully after that appointment our meds should be sent to us ready to start with my February period, so we may end up going through this at the same time.
I’m sorry to heard your last cycle didn’t go well fingers crossed 2020 is your year!!
Like you we haven’t had any bloods or extra test done (just a scan) has took in the result which were only recently done.
If I can get time off work sorted I am going to look at stay somewhere closer for a few days while having scans and EC, otherwise it a 4 1/2 round trip. I don’t mind traveling but not sure how I’ll feel with all the meds pumped inside of my too lol.

Thankyou for been open it really helps me knowing I’m not alone!! Good luck and please keep me updated xxx

So I thought I would give you an update I've spoken to create and just asked what am I getting from them for an extra £4K, abc the treatment is lead by nurses and it's consultants who lead at creat so that makes sense why there is such a difference. I'm not sure if I will meet the criteria with abc as you need to have 12 follicles and at my last scan with creat I only had 11, they have however offered a blood test at £45 to retest my AMH, my last one was in November '18 so a little outdated, so I'm thinking of going ahead with the blood test to see if it's worth booking a consultation with them.
How are you treatments going ?

@Ijustlikefood - thanks for the update, I only just noticed this and I was wondering how you were both getting on! Ahhh for the sake of 1 follicle that is really frustrating! But if I was you I'd take the plunge and do the blood test and get a consultation in. Are you at the Wilmslow one too? This is your first round isn't it?

Treatment hasn't started yet, my injections etc came last week, I'm just so excited to start now! I'm literally sat waiting in anticipation waiting to start my period that is due any time now! eeekkk xx

So ABC have started doing the free info evenings with 10 min private consult, we went on Tuesday I've booked to go back for a full consult and scan and if I don't have 12 follicles they'll transfer me to create , Also don't have to then have a consult/scan with create I can just book the appointment to start treatment , and abc consult fee is cheaper than create ! So I'm back in 2 weeks and should know more then, I was hoping to start treatment mid March but not sure if that's a bit tight on time !

Yes I'll be at wilmslow too, I'm only about 30 mins from there so no travel really and also only 30 mins from work for going to scans, this will be first cycle we didn't qualify for a any NHS treatment due to partner having a child already
