In physical pain after failed IVF cycle

We have just had a failed fresh IVF transfer. I stopped all medication on Thursday. My vagina is so sore, swollen, red, with discharge and intermittent bleeding. I rang the clinic who advised l drank water, took paracetamol and went for a walk. This all seems rather unhelpful and is unlikely to help much with the level of pain.

Has anyone else had this issue? Did you find out what it was and did you get any treatment?

Sorry to hear about your failed cycle. 💐

Is it possible you have some kind of infection? Or reaction to whatever medication you were using?

I haven't experienced what you have but one of the nurses said Crinone gel doesn't agree with everyone.

Thanks

Possibly? It is very red. But I don’t have a temperature and feel no more drained / tired then l have in the past few weeks. I’m somewhat less than thrilled with their lame ideas to resolve this. I’m quite irritable that no one warned me about this

It could be the Crinone gel, as l was on that

How long has it been going on, ie is it longer than you'd have expected your period to last? I think after my last cycle I bled longer than I normally would have.
I think it may be the gel, these are listed as common side effects:

Common side effects may include:
dizziness, confusion, drowsiness, tiredness;
headache, mood changes, feeling nervous or irritable;
stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, constipation;
bloating, swelling in your hands or feet;
breast pain, swelling, or tenderness;
cramps, pelvic pain; or.
vaginal itching, burning, or discharge.

But if it doesn't stop after a few days perhaps you can get checked by your GP if the clinic have no further suggestions.
It sucks to have this on top of the IVF not working out.
My last cycle I had some spotting which the clinic said was probably not spotting at all and just the Crinone gel coming out. I didn't even get to test day before period started and they wanted me to drive there ( 2 or 3 hour return travel time) for a blood test even after several BFNs on FRER tests.
So I understand annoyance towards the clinic. Did they confirm if they gave you an antibiotic at egg collection? Mine did to prevent infection and advised me to avoid baths, sex, swimming.

I’m bleeding on and off. It’s not been to the extent of a period though. I’m now quite swollen externally and it’s been worse since Monday

No they didn’t give me an antibiotic at egg collection but l had for around 7 days before had antibiotics

Had a row with my partner as he’s very much “it is just one of those things”. Hmm how convenient, l will remember this the next time he’s struggling to sit down or sleep. No one has actually seen me or given me any treatment. As predicted the paracetamol isn’t enough for the pain and l am now taking ibuprofen

You should go to your GP, as it's possible this is ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, and only a doctor will be able to tell for sure. Hopefully it isn't, but in rare cases it can have serious complications so you need to get checked out (which should include blood tests to make sure your hormones aren't at dangerous levels). Flowers Hope you feel better soon.
