Hi All,

I have my FET round 2(fresh cycle#cancelled & FET1 failed) starting soon in few days. I am struggling to give up tea which is my only caffeine source.. i dont drink coke or like chocolates much ! But i am addicted to tea and need it to start my day.. i had decaff tea one day and had a bad headache by afternoon and couldn't do any work at office...pls advise how to go caffeine free.. i am struggling physically more than mentally..this cycle is very important to me as i cant afford anymore failures !

Do you really have to be totally caffeine free? Can you not alternate caffeine free/normal stuff and cut down gradually

I was exactly the same I had 2 or 3 cups of tea a day as well as 1 or 2 coffees and most days a Diet Coke thrown in somewhere too! But my clinic said as long as I cut out the coffee and coke and just take it to 1 or 2 teas a day i would be fine. So now I just have 1 normal tea in the morning and the rest decaff. I had headaches for a few days but now I've weened myself off the high caffeine intake the headaches have stopped. Good luck it will get easier your body gets used to cutting it out or down to 1 cup a day x

Try weaker tea / add more milk- that’s what I did during my FET cycle that produced a BFP.

Could you just have your morning tea as normal? Would one cup be ok? And then decaff after?
Alternatively, the only option is cold turkey and just drink plenty of water to stave off the headaches until they pass, hopefully after a few days

Go cold turkey, the headaches only last a couple of days!

I've given up before and headaches are horrendous for first few days then it's fine.
I have really weak tea, just a dip in milk so I'm hoping there's not too much caffeine in that. Can you try that xx

Have you tried green tea? Or even Oolong has about half the caffeine of regular black tea.

Look at this guide and see what you can stand. Grin

the headache is from withdrawal.
it passes after a few days.
maybe try going without on a weekend. and then by the time it's monday the worst has passed.
I personally prefer a spicy chai as a substitute.

Absolutely fine to have tea.
A cup of tea will not travel to your embryo and stop it implanting

@lucyinthe i currently take 1 big mug normal tea in morning and a decaf coffee in afternoon.. i am trying to replace normal tea with decaf but finding it hard with the headaches.. reading your post, i understand that 1 cup normal tea is ok..wonder why my clinic said to go caffeine free 😐

@GrumpyHoonMain i like your name as i am equally grumpy now due to not being able to quit caffeine..is normal 1 spoon tea ok with loads of milk ?? I add very little milk.. pls share more tips as per your positive experience 🙏🙏

it does look like for some people caffeine can possibly affect implantation. that's why clinics give this advice.

@stripeypillowcase And thats why i am confused if i should go caffeine free as per clinic or go with experience of people thinking my clinic is being too strict 🙄

Cut down the cup sizes instead of going cold turkey or switching. Eventually you’ll be able to switch no issue

Are you using loose tea? I usually just used a tea bag and then brought it out after 30s to a minute. Then added milk.

Not sure why guidelines differ with this, think to be on the safe side they just say cut it out completely but it's not like you're downing red bull and double dropping pro plus! I know a lot of caffeine is bad for egg quality and womb lining/embryo development but 1 tea a day can't cause any damage.

Cutting out alcohol, smoking, fast food, sweets, chocolate and everything else in life that's so bad for you but so good is enough torture as it is! Treat yourself to your tea every morning and enjoy every drop of it 😂 that's what I do.

From one caffeine addict to another ❤️

PG tips decaf Tasty tea tastes exactly like caf tea x

Oh hon, i think you're fine on one or two cups of tea. My clinic actually told me to keep drinking my one or two cups in the morning...so that I was still doing something i love. really love! Once I had the transfer I switched to decaf... once you have the transfer it will be easier because you'll prioritise that without feeling any discomfort or deprivation xx

Just to say.. I never gave up tea or coke as they are my fav, and I had my icsi baby 18 week ago.. I think if it’s going to work it’s going to work.. my 1st cycle resulted in a miscarriage at 10 week and I changed things that’s why the 2nd cycle I changed nothing..
good luck will all 🍀

@GrumpyHoonMain yes i use loose tea and boil for long to get a strong taste.. also i love spicy tea☕️

Thankyou all tea lovers for suggestions.. i will try my best to cut down tea or try tips like boiling for less time or adding more milk.. giving up caf tea completely might be difficult.. but will try..

A cup or 2 is fine! Just as long as its not more than 200mg.
