Infertility

Anyone got their BFP with low fertilization rates (successful stories only please)

So, i just had my 6th egg collection yesterday, and i got 24 eggs.

To put you in the picture, 4 of my cycles ive responded well, with good maturity and fertilization rates and i have a 4yr old from my 4th cycle. I have PCOS and have hyperstimulated in the past.

On my last cycle, they blasted me too quick, collection was too soon, subsequently only 12 were collected, 2 were mature and none fertilised.

So, i was worried about having a simular outcome. So when i heard 24 eggs, i was optimistic.

I got the call this morning that 13 were mature and only 5 fertilized. We are going for a day 5 transfer.
I think my age is now having a part to play in all this, im 35. My embryos have never been excellent quality but enough to get pregnant and have my son.

Is there any success stories with a low fertilisation rate please with simular cirmcumstances?
Although im still in the game, and im happy about that, it only takes 1... i could do with a pick me up

Thanks

Hi
I had IVF ( ICSI ) due to male fertility (really low/poor sperm)

my first cycle last year resulted in 5 eggs only 1 fertilised.. transferred that one 3days after and it was successful but we miscarriaged at 10 weeks.. no eggs left so had to start another cycle 2month after my miscarriage and it cost £5000 we got the same outcome at egg collection only 5 eggs retrieved and only 1 fertilised.. so we transferred it again 3 days after and ive just got my baby girl 🥰 she’s 14 week old... July 2019...

oh and I am 35 years old too

Good luck for the future ❤️

Thank you and congratulations on your little girl.

I just presumed with such a rubbish fertilisation rate that all my eggs are rubbish... i guess you have just proved it doesnt work like that

Thankyouuuuu 🥰

I prefer low number eggs... quality rather than quantity... good luck with it all 🍀

Hi there, I only had 6 eggs collected, despite having many follicles. Only 3 fertilised and 2 made it to blast. First blast was an fet, as ironically I was high risk of OHSS. We were very lucky and our first fet resulted in our amazing baby boy. The other embryo remains on ice. Wishing you the best of luck x

Hi @Pigeon84, I got a bfp from 1st round of ivf a couple of months ago. 12 eggs collected only 5 fertilised. Only 1 'low grade' made it to 5 day blast and I was told by the doctors I must have poor egg quality. But that little fighting one seems to have stuck as I am coming up to 10 weeks Smile You never know, it just takes one. Wishing you lots of luck x

I have pcos and have never had the best fertilization rates. The things that were different in the cycle I got my BFP was:

Stimulation:

  1. During stims I was put on a longer short protocol with the highest strength protocol my consultant could sign off. The plan was to actively manage my OHSS risk via more regular monitoring.

  1. I took inositol, co-enzyme q10, pregnacare max, and metformin 3 months before we started stimming.

  1. The trigger was left as late as possible. V

  1. I produced 30 eggs, approx 16 were mature and while they all fertilized only 4 embryos were produced. One was transferred and then failed.

Frozen Transfer:

  1. I took 3 months between my failed cycle and the FET. During that time I paid for Level 1/2 testing and the clinic found a few genetic problems on top of my pcos as well as a few autoimmune ones.

  1. My protocol was adjusted to take my problems into account. Metformin and inositol was taken away and aspirin (up to transfer; blood thinners after), steroids, thyroxine were added.

  1. I was put on a long medicated FET protocol. This added estradiol and progesterone

  1. I had a double embryo transfer and as I didn’t drink enough water the neck of my womb needed to be clamped slightly so the transfer could be completed.

  1. After my BFP I continued all meds except steroids until 16 weeks. Then the progesterone and estradiol were removed.

I also had lipid transfusions 5 times throughout the cycle including after pregnancy. This is more than what would usually happen - as I have an autoimmune antibody problem and produce a lot of white blood cells.

I was also 35 at time of first ICSI cycle, had 12 eggs collected but only 8 mature, 6 fertilised and 3 made it to 5-day blastocyst stage. Currently 26 weeks pregnant after fresh embryo transfer.

I remember being really disappointed that I had less than 15 eggs as I'd read that was the magic number somewhere but my clinic were keen to avoid OHSS and more eggs is no guarantee of quality. Good luck!

Hi pigeon84 I had my transfer yesterday. Two embryos, one of which was a blast and one very nearly. Just had the call this morning to say that none of the other four are suitable for freezing. I started with ten in total. It’s hard isn’t it? Just hoping that one of the ones on board sticks!

It is hard. Ive only ever had 1 other blast for for freezing so i dont hold out much hope that i will get any decent quality blasts tomorrow.

Good luck on your 2ww.... think positive 🤞😁

Just a little update...

Im so shocked!

All 5 embryos were still going today... 4 being at top quality. 1 was to be transferred today, the other 3 frozen and 1 was lagging behind so will see how that will do by tomorrow..
The grades were

5AA Hatching
5AA
5AB
5BB

I cant believe it. Ive never produced such good quality embryos, let alone a hatching blast!

OTD is the 18th.

Goes to show... other cycles mean nothing hey... our bodies have a mind of their own!

That's fab news pigeon! I just came onto the thread to ask how you'd got on, and there you were Smile Let the (almost) TWW begin...

I know I won't last the full two weeks. I'll probably test next Monday which will be 7 days. This is my second round, with the first one being a BFN.

No way could i last.

Ive just ordered some tests from amazon.
Im thinking of testing a week on friday.

Any symptoms yet?

I'm trying not to symptom spot as they could all be caused by the progesterone.... trying is not the same as succeeding though! Glad you're as weak as I am Grin I don't know how some people manage to go all the way through to test day. Can't believe I'm only on day 3, feels like so much longer.

Pigeon84 · 07/11/2019 14:59

If its any comfort, im on day 1 and im itching to test already. Im already symptom spotting on the zero symptoms i have!

Like im gonna last til OTD.

When is your OTD?

Grin You're worse than me! I did notice my boobs looked bigger this morning and I've had a couple of twinges in my lower left abdomen. But I know it's all in my head really.

I haven't spent the morning at work googling and obsessively reading about how long it takes for the trigger shot to leave your system. Definitely not.

OTD is Friday 15th, so three days ahead of you. But I'm going to test on Monday 11th.

Hi pigeon. How are you getting on? It’s a BFN for me unfortunately. I’ve been testing since Monday and those glaring white spaces on the sticks haven’t got any less so. Today was OTD.

Report
Pigeon84 · 15/11/2019 09:22

Hey ayannah

Im so sorry for your BFN. Be kind to yourself, eat chocolate and drink wine. Once you feel strong again, put a plan in place. It always makes you feel better when you have focus.

Bit of a rollercoaster for me. I got a BFP at 6dp, the a very near BFN 7dp. I cried all day thinking i was having a chemical. I started spotting brown blood in the afternoon of 7dp (weds) so did a test to ensure it was negative, and got a BFP, faint (to be expected) but the strongest ive had so far.
So ive stepped away from tests for now for my own sanity.
I will do a test on Sunday but i still believe this is a chemical. Sad
Just a feeling i have.

This has been so hard. X
