Hi all - I'm new to this site and am looking for suggestions, experiences relating to secondary infertility.
My husband and I have a DD who is 5 (6 in Feb). She was conceived with no problems at all, perfect pregnancy but a tricky labour - it was loooong and I ended up having a fairly unpleasant c section.
In Jan 2017 we decided to try for number 2 and still nothing at all......
I'm 36 and my husband is 33. We've not had all the tests and the issues are completely unexplained - ovulation and periods are regular. I recently had a HSG which was clear.
I'm due another appointment with the specialist and Monday and presume we'll discuss clomid - has anyone who already ovulates has success with Clomid?
Every now and again I worry that my c section has caused this - why on earth can't we conceive when it was so easy the first time???? Each month I find it harder when my period shows up because I would love for my little girl to have a sibling. Any comments gratefully received. Thank you for reading x

I’m not in the same situation as you but I did read another lady who had a c section and it was actually the section that caused her infertility.

If your tubes are clear then it probably isn't the c-section. I'm no expert though!

I've also been trying for a little longer than you. I did have a blocked tube discovered though (I had a c-section and also kidney surgery since having dc1 so could be from either) and had that operated on/cleared in July. My situation is different as it did take us a while to conceive dc1 and I have polycystic ovaries. We have tried, clomid, tamoxifen and metformin, but that will have been for different reasons to you. You can ask about clomid, but they may recommend going for iui of ivf. We've recently started the ivf ball rolling as time is ticking by! I'm older than you though.

I'm probably the lady who was referred earlier to in this thread. we have been trying for no.2 for 4 years, all bloods fine. had a laparoscopy last week and discovered I have loads of adhesions on the outside of my womb and both tubes are blocked, yes it was the c-section that caused this.

waiting to have a HSG to confirm tube diagnosis and having a hysterscopy to check for adhesions in the womb, but realistically its IVF or nothing

I had a laparoscopy last week where they discovered blocked tubes, however when I asked if they could be unblocked I was told that unlocking them causes adhesions so it's not worthwhile doing as the success rates are so low.

however I see that they did unblock yours. was it successful, and did you have to push for this?

@bubbaflash it's quite a long story. I was referred for the HyCoSy on the nhs but they didn't have any doctors trained to do it, I eventually got fed up of waiting so paid for it to be done privately. At private place they said I had one blocked tube and when I asked about getting it unblocked they said they don't really do that in the uk (although I know two others who have had the op - one worked and now has 2 dc other was told the scarring was too bad and to go straight to ivf). Meanwhile I went to a different private place (for different reasons to them saying they don't unblock tubes here) and he out of the blue he referred me back onto his nhs list and that's how I had the tube unblocked with a laparoscopy, he also did some ovarian drilling while he was there. Your situation may be different as it sounds like you have quite a lot of scaring so maybe it would be best to go for ivf sooner. Good luck.

@bubbaflash just re-read your post. It sounds like your scaring was just worse or more than mine so that's why they didn't do it then and there. Sorry. Mine did work as far as I know, but it hasn't worked in terms of making a baby as we're booked in to an ivf clinic next month to get that started.

I conceived after 8 yrs secondary infertility and chlomid.
During that time I had x 2 miscarriages, when the 2nd happened it was suspected ectopic and during surgery they removed a lot of adhesions after my emcs.
I conceived shortly after so after all the tests we had I suspect that the emcs was connected.

Thank you for your responses - much appreciated. I'm sorry that you are all / have been experiencing issues too - I know we should all be very grateful to have a child already but sometimes i find it SO hard :-(

I think I will revisit my Q's re the possible damage of the c section at my next appointment. I live on an Island where neither IUI or IVF are covered so would need to go private m, plus the travel costs, which is obvs a big expense x
