Short luetal phase / progesterone ?

Can anyone help me? Sorry if sound emotional into cycle day 1 again! I suffered with recurrent miscarriages a few years back but eventually conceived daughter (I know how lucky I am to have one) - we have been TTC again now for 12 months but nothing. My luteal phase from tracking seems to be averaging 9 (this month 8!) which is what was happening when I had my miscarriages.

I am in talks with an ivf clinic in Birmingham and will be considering ivf next February but I really want to do all I am to try naturally first.

Any of the consultants I have seen over the years always dismiss it when I bring it up but anything you read says progesterone is essential to maintain a healthy pregnancy as is a luteal phase of 10-16 days so why won't anyone help?

Do you think it would be worth trying chlomid for 3 months before trying ivf? Again they all dismiss this and say it won't help me which it probably won't but still !

Sorry lots of questions there is no help out there it's so frustrating! X

Have you had prolactin levels tested?
If this level is high it reduces levels of other hormones needed for successful conception.

High prolactin levels can be caused by certain medical conditions

I had three recurrent miscarriages last year so I took a break to have lots of tests and have now started trying again this month. Our consultant has put me on Cyclogest which is progesterone pessaries, twice a day for a week starting a few days after ovulation because she doesn't think I produce enough of it. Maybe worth asking about that?

It's worth noting that she did say that evidence is mixed as to whether it works but they think it might be most beneficial to those who have had recurrent miscarriages and it can't harm to take it anyway just in case.

Clomid should (in theory) help with a short luteal phases.

Hi,

I’m the same - really short cycles and luteal phase and the doctors don’t seem to think it’s important. I can’t see how it’s not.

I actually conceived the one cycle that I was taking progesterone in advance of beginning IVF, which extended my luteal phase a few days. It seems too much of a coincidence that that was when I conceived (later miscarried, unfortunately).

I don’t know whether to beg the doctors for progesterone or try IVF again.

Let me know if you get any answers!

Thanks everyone for your responses I will ask again about chlomid again but they don't seem to think it will help me - will also ask about cyclogest as well but again they brush it off ! I will pay for it so don't see what the problem is! The struggle continues good luck to you all and thanks again x

Hello, I also have low progesterone and short luteal phases. They're giving me clomid and they said they might give me cyclogest but they haven't given me much information about when or how I'd get it.

On the natural remedy side of things last year I found that Agnus Castus extended my luteal phase, but I still didn't get pregnant so not a magic cure for me. I would caution using it if you're about to start any treatment though as some places will ask that you've not taken any herbal remedies for a couple of months before doing IVF - so I wouldn't want you to set yourself back. I went to a nutritionist and she told me to eat lots of brocoli and cauliflower and I'm also doing "seed cycling". Honestly, I don't think diet can influence it much but I'll try anything at this point!

Hi,

I have extremely short luteal phases varying from 5 days to 8 days.

After 9 months TTC in Sept 2018 I managed to conceive my DD who was born in June this year. With my DD I ovulated on day 25 and at 8dpo I got what I thought was my period, lasting 3-4 days. I felt really light headed several times from 8dpo onwards and just felt different. I took an IC test at 13dpo and was shocked to get a positive result. I've no ideas how it happened. I was booked in to have a tube dye test in 4 days time!

I thought my body might have reset itself after giving birth but I've just had my first post partum period and my luteal phase was only 5 days.
I'm tracking my cycle using opks and other signs e.g ewcm.

I'm a keen runner and exercise 4-5 times a week. I don't know if this affects my luteal phase caused by the stress of exercise of my body.

I'd love someone to explain how I got pregnant with an 8day luteal phase as I've no idea but it just goes to show it can happen.
