After IVF when did you stop taking pessaries?

Hi all,

I’ve (finally) just had my first BFP with IVF after several years of IUI and another round of IVF with an NHS clinic.

So my question is when were you advised to stop taking progesterone? I’ve been on Utrogestan vaginal pessaries since the embryo transfer but the nurse yesterday said that’s it - no more needed (I’m week 4). However the leaflet in the box says they should be continued until at least week 7! Does anyone have any experience of stopping the pessaries early?!

Thanks in advance!

I was on progesterone for the whole first trimester, but that may have been an overabundance of caution on the part of my clinic.

Congratulations!

I think it was week 10 but different clinics have different guidelines.

@Becs86 congrats. I only took the progesterone for 3 more days after my BFP. I was just to finish what was left in the packet. I worried at the time, but it was all fine x

I think it depends on your protocol and also if it was a fresh, DE or fet.

I got my bfp from a fet and I have been told to continue until 10 weeks. My understanding is that progesterone is produced by the follicle that turns in a corpus luteum. If you have DE or a fet then your ovaries won’t have produced a corpus luteum that month therefore you need the support.

Thanks all! It was a fresh transfer - just panicked a bit I think!! (I don’t imagine it’ll be the last time ha!)

I took for 14w tho clinic advised to 12 as then the placenta takes over /have enough hormones

But I was then worried if I went from 800 to nothing

So over 2w I weaned to 400. Then 200

Clinic said no need but think they humoured me

I was told to stop at 12 weeks but I had a few spare so just took them every other day to use them up so I probably stopped around 13-14week
congratulations I’ve just had a ivf baby 11 weeks ago... it’s worth all the crap we have to go through x

Hi there! Congratulations!

I am 8 weeks pregnant after my 2nd round of ivf. I had a fresh cycle. I am on cyclogest pessaries and crinone gel pessaries. I have been advised that I should take these for 12weeks.

Just to put your mind at rest I'd contact your clinic. They should be able to put your mind at rest.

Good luck!

Until 16 weeks because my consultant didn’t want to take any chances, but at my clinic younger women (ie those under 30-35) usually come off by 4-8 weeks.

14 weeks in my case.

I think perhaps if IVF is successful first time for you its doesn’t cause such a burden and stressful-I think it’s repeated cycleafter cycle it becomes so much worse. For me the drugs aren’t too bad -but there are side effects, mentally it’s hard having life on hold all the time and feeling like you are failing and wondering when it will end. It’s a lot of waiting. Good luck whatever you decide. It’s so personal. And of course you never know if you are going to be one of the lucky ones that conceived on the first round.

Thanks all.

@firsttimeivfmum congratulations to you too!! And on your baby @shazzz1xx

I contacted my clinic, they said I’d need to continue if I’d done a frozen transfer, however fresh is fine as I ovulated (there was a lot more depth to the explanation!) But basically, my body should be producing enough... even at this early stage.
