Hi, my partner and I have been TTC for 2.5 years, we finally have our first appointment with Thames valley fertility clinic in maidenhead on 23/09, this is for a baseline scan and AMH...can anyone advise what this exactly is and what we can expect from this appointment? Thank you

Hi @Grvy246

The baseline scan will be in internal ultrasound. Basically a dildo with a camera on the end that they put a condom and some lube on and then put inside you. They will move it about slightly side to side to get a full picture and you should be able to see the picture on the screen (though it will just be shadows and probably mean nothing to you). It doesn't hurt. Maybe slightly embarrassing and uncomfortable at your first one but if you end up doing IVF you get very used to them very quickly. The scan will be able to get a general look at your womb and ovaries and they will be looking to see how many follicles you have as it will give them an indication of ovulation / potential response to fertility drugs etc. It should only take 5 mins.

AMH rest is a quick blood test and the levels will help tell doctors what your ovarian reserve is like (I.e. how many eggs you have left).
