Anyone's embryo take 6 days to get to blastocyst?

Hi there.

Having yet another embryo transfer. This one took 6 days to reach blastocyst stage. I was pleasantly surprised when a 2BB on day 5 got to be a 5BB on day 6 (when they froze it) but then I read online it's not great when an embryo takes longer than 5 days to get to blastocyst stage. Growing so fast makes me wonder if it's genetically abnormal.

Anyhow, I'm just wondering if any of you had a 6 day embryo transferred and what the outcome was, good or bad? Please state what grade your embryo was if you know it.

Thanks x

I think it is quite common - I think 5 days ones are slightly better, but a good day 6 blast is still a good blast!

I had a 6 day blastocyst transferee 2 weeks ago. It was graded as ABB.

Unfortunately, we found out today that it didn't implant. However, I was always told "if it's good enough to freeze, it's good enough to make a baby", so don't feel too down about it being a 6 rather than 5 day old blastocyst.

Thanks to you both struggleisreal and CrazylazyJane. Sorry to hear your sad news today. I know it hits you right where it hurts the most. Not sure what the first A refers to tbh as clinics use different grading systems. The 5 on mine means it's hatching (4 would be embryo lining thinned out, 6 would be hatched).

I almost wonder if grading adds to the stress but for some of us information cravers the more we know the better we think we feel. Funny thing is no one knows anything until they get those two pink lines on a stick :'-(

Good luck trying another IVF cycle. You're a fighter, I'm sure Wink

My twins (now 5) were both early blastocysts on day 5

I read that that's why statistically more boys are born from IVF than girls as girl embryos are slower so boy ones look stronger at day 5 and so girls are often graded lower and frozen rather than transferred as fresh

My 2 year old was an early blastocyst at day 5. Caught up to be an 11lb newborn Grin

Watching with interest as I have a day 5 bb and a hatching day 6 AA in the freezer. My clinic said it didn’t matter which we use first as they’re both “excellent” quality if they froze them. Let’s hope so. I have a son from cycle 2 but we transferred 2 day 3 embryos so no idea what quality he was on day 5!

I had a day 6 blastocyst frozen (grade A) from my first cycle the day after 2 fresh 5-day blasts were implanted unsuccessfully. Two months later I had an unmedicated frozen transfer and a healthy baby just over eight months after that. The clinic graded blastocysts simply A, B, C etc.

Thanks @ChatWithMe we are about to embark on the journey again. I hope it all goes well with yours. I had written off the 4 cell embryo on day 3 when the others were 6 or 8 cells. I guess we just worry more when things aren’t textbook.

Just to update anyone still following this post: FET was cancelled today as the embryo didn't survive the thaw. I'm really sad but actually relieved because I'd rather know now than in 11 days when I would have gotten a bfn. Ciest la vie Sad

Thanks InThisMultiverse - your message was like a virtual hug Smile

By what's next do you mean the alcoholic drinks I'll be having this afternoon? Lol

Well, unfortunately my hubby wants to go back to basics and do 3 rounds of IUI Sad It ain't gonna work but I agreed. Next year we'll do 2 rounds of IVF and then call time on this thing.

I wish we could just get the show on the road with the next IVF cycle but it takes two in this equation.

When do your next stimming injections start?

Thanks CrazylazyJane - guess your news only came a week ago but maybe it's long enough to come to terms with the outcome? Hope you're feeling hopeful again anyway. I'm sure I will feel better after a while passes x

@ChatWithMe a drink sounds well deserved. I somewhat forgot the need to brace myself from that eye-stinging disappointment when things don’t go to plan. I won’t be down-regging until the end of next month. Timings with a holiday don't allow us to crack on until then. Maybe your consultant will dissuade you from IUI?

Holidays are good for mental health :-)

Yes doc did sorta suggest don't too much waste time but my hubby is a straight shooter so he can't be persuaded hehe

Thank you.

That was round 5 of ivf - 4 since having DS. Can't keep going on so trying to accept not having another child that is biologically related to me. It hurts.
