Help! I am due to start stims in 10 days. I have been planning to have a small tattoo in memory of my dd for some time and just had an email to say they have slots tomorrow and thurs. Will this cause any issues with the ivf? I don’t want to take any unnecessary risks.

Hi Robs, sorry for the loss of your DD.

I don't imagine there will be a large sample of people who've had IVF and a tattoo within a short time frame. I guess I'd be thinking of any risks associated with getting a tattoo, like if it were to get infected would you need antibiotics, would that affect things.

Everyone is different but for me I try to avoid anything that I might later berate myself for if the IVF doesn't work. Like even if logically there isn't a connection if I'd feel like 'if only I hadn't done xyz' then I'd wait.

Would it be possible to book the tattoo for a few months? Then if IVF has worked you could postpone. Apologies if that would mean you miss an anniversary or something related to your DD that you had in mind.

Maybe speak to the tattoo artist.

Go for it.
Ivf can be a marathon not a sprint. Unless your one of the lucky few it works for 1st or 2nd time.
I spent too many years putting stuff I wanted to do on hold.
Im finally pregnant after almost a decade ttc and 7 rounds of treatment.

There's no reason why getting a tattoo would in any way have any impact on an ivf cycle.
Obviously just make sure u go to a reputable place where equipment is fully sterilised, but that goes without saying

My clinic had things I couldn’t do before a cycle listed on the paperwork - might be a good idea to check yours. At my clinic tattoos were listed as something that would delay treatment and cause you to get certain blood tests to be done again due to the infection risk.

Thanks for the comments. Well....I had to postpone the tattoo. Surprise natural pregnancy confirmed last week!
Tattoo will have to be a treat for next year instead.
