Low AMH and IVF - need your advice

Hi guys,

Ive been reading the posts in the forum for a while now, been extremely helpful and inspiring, but this is my first post.

My partner and me are about to start an IVF cycle (Reprofit, Brno) in September due to my low sperm count. This morning we have received my partners (37) AMH results and from what we understand, they are far from being ideal - 0.848 ng/ml.

My partner took it pretty hard, and as she is not interested in the egg donation route, we wonder how this AMH results will affect out IVF chances? is it game over? is it high enough to thru a successful IVF cycle? All of her other parameters (LH, P, E2, etc) are good.

The results of the test during the 2nd day of the cycle are:
E2 - 182.1pmol/L
P - 12.67
LH - 7.34
FSH - 9.70

Thanks!

@Alon789 Looks like that converts to 6.0 on the UK scale which tends to use pmol/L so you're still in with every chance - they way they explained it to me is that these things are very much a guide, and starting a round of IVF is like opening a book on you ie they don't know how you are going to react as an individual until they start giving you the drugs. Mine was 2.2 pmol/L and I got 4 eggs, 2 embryos. Best of luck guys xx

Hi Wesstywoo,

Thank you so much for the reply! Some good news for Saturday morning.

From what we've read online, we understood that 0.848 ng/ml is within the low range of AMH levels and were worried that IVF will be a waste of time, so definitely a relief :)

I guess it has some effect on the overall IVF cycle chances, as at least this parameter is not optimal, but hopefully the stimulation medications will do their magic.

Have a great weekend!

Don’t stress too much mine was 5.4pmol at 33 and I’ve had 2 ivf babies (born when I was 34 from FET following ivf #2)

The advice we were given with this low Amh news was get on with it and not waste time.

AMH of 6 is OK. Reprofit are a good clinic, you have every chance.

Waterdropsdown - thank you for the reply, great to hear some encouraging words and to know we have a fighting chance :)

Alice - We understood (by reading online) that 6 is within the low-normal range, not ideal, but workable.

Your comments definitely uplifted the spirit of my partner and she was pretty devastated yesterday when we got the results, I can't thank you enough!

My amh was 8.4 age 31 and I gotta 22 eggs cycle 1 and 30 cycle 2. Currebtky breastfeeding my 6 month old and got two Frosties.

Amh is a guide but seeing how you respond to the drugs is the only thing that will regally let you know your ovarian reserve

Hoping2018 - Happy to hear things worked out for you, we hope to be at the same place exactly a year from now :) We are suppose to get our stimulation meds protocol this week so I hope my partner will response well to them.

Ellesbelles - Thanks for your words and great to hear that you were able to make it happen, I guess its really all about the quality of the eggs, not the quantity. The other parameters seems to be ok so we hope there will be no surprises in the near future.

Have an amazing Sunday!

Read the book ‘it starts with the egg’ my amh wasn’t the best and I followed the advice in this book regarding supplements. I didn’t get loads of follicles during ivf but I ended up pregnant (currently) and have one embryo frozen. Really sorry you are both going through this, it’s totally shit being in this position but there is hope 💐

Sorry just reread that you’re starting ivf imminently. Good luck with it all, remember all you need is one embryo xxx

Wilthshirelass - Thanks, we will make sure to look into this book and I hope everything goes well with your pregnancy, keeping my fingers crossed for you! We already understood that probably we will not have tons of eggs, but we just hope their quality will be good enough and develop into an embryo.

Laura - Very encouraging, would be amazing for us to have few extra embryos we can freeze, but for now, we will be happy to just have 1-2 embryos we can use. I wish you all the best with the development of the eggs, I'm sure you are very stressed at the moment, so I really hope the eggs will develop as they should :)
