Thanks, that's useful to know. I have good lining thickness and regular cycles, so will definitely ask.

I think most clinics want you to do medicated FET because they can control the process more - my cycles are 29 days like clockwork and i always have perfect lining thickness so my clinic was happy with non medicated transfers although on the last FET I did do one trigger shot to release the egg just so we got the transfer day bang on (they like you to have gotten the LH surge by like cycle day 12/13 or when the egg gets to a certain size if not then they advise the trigger shot)

Thanks @itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted - good to hear that lots of people get results second time around. Sorry to hear about your miscarriage xx

I did short protocol for the egg collection and have frozen embryos left to use but it looks like it will be November before I can have the next transfer. My period came within a few days of the negative test so I might ask the consultant whether I can do a drug free FET. My clinic seems to use drugs for FET by default - do you know what the reasons for and against this are?

Hi @Holly147 sorry your first round didn't work for you

I had the same with my first transfer but actually then had a surprise naturally conceived BFP the following month - unfortunately ended in miscarriage but we actually felt more hopeful as it was the first BFP in over a year.

I cycle A lot quicker as chose to do short protocol mild ivf so periods came back straight away and my FET are drug free so I just track natural ovulation

I've read loads of posts where people had a failed round with their first best quality transfer but got their BFP with a second lower grade one x

I had my first frozen embryo transfer a few weeks ago, and very naively assumed it would work first time hmm, but had a BFN earlier this week.

Does anyone have any positive stories to cheer me up? I can't help feeling that this was our best chance, and if this doesn't work it's less likely to happen on future attempts. Everything seemed to be in our favour - it was a 5-day blast that had survived PGD testing, and apparently was dividing well after being thawed. The nurse said my womb lining was perfect and everything went well with the transfer. They obviously would have used our highest quality embryo first, so it feels like there is less chance now of a BFP in the future.

It doesn't help that the follow-up appointment with the consultant is 5 weeks away, so no chance to ask any questions until then. I don't know what the quality/grading of the embryo that was implanted was, or the quality of the others I have left.

It also seems like a very long wait until we can try again. It sounds like I have to have 2 months off all drugs, then 1 month on the pill, then 1 month on hormones before the next transfer. So it will probably take over a year just to have 3 attempts, which feels like a long time. Do some clinics do this more quickly?
