Poor sperm analysis- any positive stories?

My husband has received his semen analysis results

2% normal sperm
11.8m sperm count
27% progressive motility

High sample volume.

He's been told he's not infertile but it will be difficult for us to conceive. We have gotten pregnant previously after 7 months of trying but unfortunately miscarried.

Looking for some positive stories from people who have been in a similar position

They are only a little lower than the normal - maybe put him on a healthy regime and pre conception vitamins like proxeed or Proceive to see if they get better?

Same as my friend. She did icsi ivf and preg first time. He’s now almost 3

My husband's first and second SA results were similar to these - I can't remember the exact numbers but while he had a high volume & count, his motility and morphology were pretty woeful.

Less caffeine and less alcohol plus a Lycopene supplement and his most recent results came back as normal. Definitely worth trying some lifestyle changes - does your DH smoke? Cycle? Take hot baths?

Sorry to hear of your loss and that you're in this position and good luck - it should be possible to conceive with these results but he may be able to improve them too xx

There are definitely things we can look at to try improve his count. He is a very keen cyclist - and not overly keen to stop!
He also had a varicocele repair when he was younger but wondering if surgical removal rather that the laparoscopic coil insertion he had would be better.

He's taking vit c, zinc, coenzyme QA along with some other things so perhaps we need to try other supplements.
Definitely need to try the sperm meets egg plan too. Fingers crossed fingers for a relatively simple solution to conceive successfully xx

Slightly different scenario but positive ending...

My husband had a zero sperm count due to a blockage caused by undescended testes (which were operated on during childhood).

We had surgical sperm retrieval but the count of the sperm was low and quality wasn't great.

We started seeking help from Jonathan Ramsey, who operated on my husband and managed to remove the blockage and reconstruct, which gave my husband a normal sperm count. He also managed to retrieve better quality sperm during the same operation.

We're now pregnant and due any day.

I completely recommend a visit to Jonathan Ramsey.

dh has low morphology. we did icsi twice and have two children. ICSI is best for male factor problems we were told because they literally go in and select a good sperm. They can do this with sperm, whereas when the quality issue relates to the egg, it's obv a bit more difficult.

Aww @FuzzyPixel - that's great news! Congratulations! It just goes to show that so much can be done to assist!

We have been trying a year now, but because I fell pregnant in December and miscarried, we don't yet meet criteria for referral on the NHS. My GP is making a referral and trying to put our case forward.
Hopefully they accept and if not, we need to wait a few more months. Private is an option- just an expensive one so will try to explore other options first!

@OstrichRunning my husband has mentioned ICSI as an option. Hopefully, if we get to the point of needing it, the success rate will good 🙈x

I think your post must be the 5th one I've seen in the last couple of weeks where the male partner has sperm problems and also a cyclist! I think it would tip me the over edge dealing with infertility if I had to endure my DH in skin tight Lycra 😬 as well! 🤦‍♀️

Seriously someone needs to invent a sperm friendly bike seat!

And it's so frustrating when they are so into cycling that the suggestion of them giving up doesn't go down well!!!

@lovepositivity I'd be laying on the guilt trip pretty thick I think - sperm takes about 90 days to mature - tell him if you've got to inject yourself with medication which quite frankly makes you hormonal and unhinged and insert suppositories into bodily cavities which are meant to be only one way (well in this house anyway 🤣) and submit to having strange people look at your vagina several times a week the least he can do is lay off the cycling for 3 months to give yourselves the best change!

(I may have shouted at my DH that if i can remember to shove things up my arse 3 tines a day the least he could is remember to take his pre conception vitamins! - he looked horrified but hasn't forgotten since! 🤣)

y DH also had poor results. We had ICSI ivf and due my first transfer on Thursday! Even with DH poor results we managed to get 12/14 eggs fertilised and have 5 good quality blastocysts in the freezer.

My DH took coq10 high dose vit c and wellman tablets. Results did improve but it took 6 months to Show a difference. not improved to perfect but a noticeable difference.

If you would consider ivf I would start down the referral process now as it can take a long time. For us 12 months before we started treatment. You could continue to try naturally whilst going through the referral process.
