High TSH - blood tests

Hello,

We have been TTC for 2 years now and I’ve had some thyroid blood tests.
My TSH level is 18.4.
The dr said I possibly have hypothyroidism.
Does anyone else have experience of high TSH?
I’m finding it hard but know it’ll happen for us one day!

Easily treated. And why would he say 'possibly'?? The threshold is 10 ffs!!! Ask for a referral to endocrinology. Levels are recommended to be below 2. High tsh is associated with early miscarriage. But as I said, it's easily treated with levothyroxine.

Your levels are high enough to impact on your fertility - you need to be started on levothyroxine (assuming the other thyroid blood tests - t3:t4 super this too?) as physicskate says tsh should reduce with treatment and should be

Mine were 5.4 so not as high as yours but I naturally reduced mine and ended up way below 2. Your levels definitely indicate a referral to endocrinology

My GP wants to do a second blood test 3 months after my first one (showing the high TSH) If the second test is high then she’ll start me on Levothyroxine. Due to be tested in August.
I’ve have T3,T4 tested too.

This is absurd. Depending on what scale they are using TSH should be below 4, and below 2.5 during pregnancy!!!!

Mine was 4.2 and I was immediately put onto Levothyroxine and I have been on it for the last 4 years with 3-6 monthly checkups. I have subsequently been diagnosed with Hashimotos (thyroid antibodies) and several small nodule growths on my thyroid itself.

I would suggest going back right away and asking for a retest/treatment.

Untreated hypothyroidism doesn't just cause fertility issues, it is linked with early miscarriage and possible fetal brain development problems during first trimester especially.
