Sex after ET

Can you guys clarify for me. My post ET notes say no sex for 10 weeks.... 10 weeks?

Ive searched the net and I cannot find anything that says this is normal.

I understand that you may want to wait until a BFP has been confirmed or denied but it just seems quite overly cautious to wait 10 weeks if you do have BFP to have to abstain for 10 weeks. DH is clearly devastated!

I was told no sex until either I got a negative on OTD, or if I get a positive until the first scan whenever that might be. I guess around 5 weeks after ET?

10 weeks seems a bit much. I also think it just means unprotected sex - you're OK with a condom once you've healed after EC.

That sounds about right to me plus I'm surprised you're up for it after going through IVF 😂

I'm surprised you're up for it with the bloody pessaries. So messy! Good on you! :)

@twinkledag

I cant find anything that says you should abstain for that long and just about everything I read says to continue when its safe to do so.
I understand the risk of infection after EC and the risk of unprotected sex whilst down regging but I would like to know if anybody has some medical reasons why after ET and after OTD (BFP) you shouldnt engage in intercourse?

IVF isnt the same for everyone and whilst you may feel crap, I feel like my marriage needs some intimacy given how hard this has been on both of us.

Right now, Im in my TWW and will not be having sex as advised but Im simply interested to hear what everyone elses clinic instructions were in this regard post ET. The pessaries put another dimension on it to be fair so Im just being curious?

My clinic advised no sex till 12 weeks, that's why I'm saying that sounds about right!

It would depend on your specific circumstances really so only your consultant can advise.

Maybe call and ask if they mean unprotected sex or just all sex?

My clinic says have sex "if you so wish". WHY IS THE ADVICE SO DIFFERENT? Sorry I just don't get it, it freaks me out.

I was told no sex for first 12w. Safe then sorry

Scanned and placenta over cervix and consultant advised no sex as could cause a bleed

Df banned sex whole preg. Wasn’t worth the risk

I would have never forgiven myself if we did have sex and had a mc
