Sperm analysis results. Help?

After two months, we got my husband’s analysis back. No one at the clinic or GP has bothered with getting us a follow up to go over results so I just asked for a print out today.

Who is an expert here who can help me?

Concentration: 16 mill/ml
Progressive motility: 56%
Total sperm number: 112 million
Total motile sperm: 63 million
Morphology: 1% normal (abnormal head shape present)
Viscosity: Abnormal
Round cells: 1 mill/ml

I am sure someone will be along soon who knows more than me, but I didn't want to read and run. The Morphology does look low. That is the shape of the sperm. It looks like the count is good though so that makes the morphology less of a problem, but I would still get an appointment with your doctor and discuss it.
I saw someone on here had a DH with low morphology and managed to improve it by him taking Wellman conception vitamins and zinc. I think things like giving up/cutting down on booze, smoking and also cycling and hot baths and to lose the tight underwear is recommended.

Have they not put on there in brackets next to your result what the average range is (you get this usually with NHS tests)

From what I remember your sperm count looks fine and is a good number but obviously the morphology is low - the NHS considers 4% to be the acceptable result for morphology

For comparison my husband had 2% morphology and a good count - NHS said this was ok because of the count part - private IVF said no and we had to do ICSI

Obviously if he has been ill in the last 3 months this could have caused this result so I would get him taking a really good conception supplement for next 90 days - There is a Proceive Max one for men over 35 or a standard Proceive one for younger chaps - they have the most "in" them from what I've compared to the ones you can get to Boots or Wellman x

@miracleon13th, they do have the normal ranges next to them except for viscosity and the abnormal head shape. I went back and read some who had 2% morphology and still got pregnant but with ivf or icsi. I wish we could afford either or those.

Several people have suggested proxeed but wow is it expensive. I am hoping the tablet supplements work just as well. As long as it’s the same dosage of each vitamin.

@flapjackered, hubby already takes cooler baths, wears boxers, doesn’t smoke, hardly drinks so we’re ahead of the game on that part. I’ve asked to get an appointment with the clinic who did the analysis so we can get a better picture.

Xx

None of those things he's doing will make a massive difference I'm afraid. We had icsi in your circumstances but it was expensive., those supplements are not proven. If they were, nobody would need icsi would they, they'd take a supplement instead.

I don’t see any harm in supplements. They may not make a difference but I’d rather try whatever I can. I’d do icsi if someone wants to fund it for me.

Oh yes Im Not suggesting that the supplements are in any way harmful.

Hello I thought it might help to share my experience. My partner had a low sperm count, 2 million or less each time. We tried for 6 years and nothing. In December he got diagnosed with varicoseles and had an embolisation to shrink the vein. It took 20 minutes and 3 months later (now) im pregnant. Only 4 weeks but it worked. Do get his testicles checked for this as it is so common and so solvable. Wishing you all the best

Thank you @iamneverfull

He wants to be put through the ringer so we’re asking our gp for any appointment/referrals. We will keep trying in the meantime. Xx

My husbands test showed 0% normal morphology in November and I am currently 15 weeks pregnant from a natural conception so it can happen! He did take proxeed for 3 months (we thought it was worth a try in between semen analysis that were arranged for 3 months apart). Was pregnant before the second test! Good luck x
