Feel like giving up and I haven't even started yet. IUI/IVF referral

Hi everyone, I guess I just want to rant at what has been one hell of a shit show since being referred by my GP.

I waited several months for my first Gyna appointment which was in October 2018. The consultant was off sick so I saw a stand in Doctor (not sure what the correct term is). Having listened to me she said that I could not be referred and suggested I find a sperm donor myself. I got upset because my GP had led me to believe that I could be referred for IVF.

She went into the other room for a 2nd opinion and the Doctor said that I could be referred after all. I had my HSG last month and then an appt with Gyna last Thursday. He looked at my HSG results and said tubes were clear however my progesterone level was only 1, which meant it was unlikely I was ovulating so I am likely to be infertile.

The nurse looked over his shoulder and said no, day 1 of period I was number 1 but by day 21 I was number 19 (I really am not sure what these mean, some say good, some say bad). Anyway he said the referral will continue and that the stand in doctor last time had referred me to fertility clinic and showed me a letter.

I asked what hospital I had been referred to and they didn't know.

I have spent all morning calling round and the hospital said they have no record of me being referred. Gyna secretary said she can see that I was referred but not sure why hospital have not received this. She is going to look into it when she receives my notes.

I just feel so sad about it all. What If I have to go back to the start of the waiting list? I am 38 and feel that time is not on my side.

Hi melted cheese I'm new to this site your post struck a cord because I am 38 aswell. I checked with my GP after trying for a year and I am not eligible for IVF cos my partner has a 4 year oldsad guess its a private job which will cost me best part of 8k. What a decision!!! Wish I could help..

Hi @wagtail1 Thanks for replying, and you @2fingers

I received a call today advising they have now referred me and they had been waiting for my HSG results.

I do feel a bit better but can't seem to be positive about it.

Have you been diagnosed with anything in particular that means you need IVF? I think it's terribly sad that you cant have treatment if your partner has a child.

just good old fashioned age related, went to a private clinic for fertility health "MOT" only got one ovary due to an operation, but it is healthy with decent amount of follicles on it. Doctor said if I was thinking of IVF I need to start to sooner rather than later.

Glad you are feeling a bit better following your referral, I have found this site really helpful so far!

Can relate, I've had to chase absolutely everything for 3.5. Was told it was unexplained when my AMH was 1. 1! I've kind of given up tbh, today I went for a kidney function blood test so they can book an MRI scan so they can check a cyst on my ovary so they can agree ivf can go ahead with a Very Small chance of it working after 3.5 years watching my fertility decline. Had enough.

@MeltedCheese82 I am 38 yrs old- 39 in June.

I know there are success stories about women conceiving in late 30s and even 40s but I don't know if that will be me! I am going to phone fertility place today to get more info.
