IVF clinic success rates - how do they know?

I had DD in January after a successful FET cycle. After we got the BFP, I had a couple of blood tests at our clinic and was discharged by the clinic at 6 weeks. Since then we have had no contact from the clinic. For all they know, I could have miscarried before 12 weeks (in fact I did have some bleeding at 5 weeks, hence the blood tests).

So now DD has been born, how does the clinic know there has been a live birth from our cycle? I am curious because the live birth rate statistic is one we looked at when choosing a clinic, but how reliable is this statistic if the clinic doesn't check what has happened to its patients after a BFP?

Does seem strange as I was under the impression that clinics had a mandatory obligation to detail the outcome to the HFEA.

When I was discharged from the clinic following a BFP I was provided with a form which I had to complete and send to them to let them know the outcome of the pregnancy - details such as gestation/delivery method etc.

We had a questionnaire through from our clinic which we sent back... my friend forgot to send the questionnaire back and they called to sensitively ask how things turned out.

Congratulations by the way :)

You will usually get a pregnancy outcome form, if you don't return it the clinic will likely sensitively follow up when the deadline comes for the pregnancy outcomes to be submitted to the HFEA, some people never return them but the majority do

Mine phoned me when my daughter was a few months old. She gave me the impression I was supposed to let them know, but no one had briefed me. I promised to send them a few photos; still not got round to it (nearly 3 years on!).

I would let me know when the time is right.

Yes we were contacted both times and asked to fill a questionnaire in. I sent them a photo which is still up on their wall of babies

I wondered this too, but our clinic was attached to the maternity hospital where I had the baby. We sent them a birth announcement/ thanks card but no one has followed up officially!

I had a form to return. I actually took it in with my new born. Lady on reception asked if I had an appointment Hmm. Said i was just in with the from and sweeties.

Various people, embryologist, nurses, people from the lab appeared for hugs. Made their dayGrin

We haven't been given/sent a form. Guess I'll wait and see if one comes. All seems rather laid back, given that the birth of a baby is the ultimate result they need to track.

No form tho obv the failed cycles they knew about

The one that worked I emailed clinic to say preg

And when dd was born I sent a pic saying thank you so much

They replied saying so happy and she would go on their baby board

But agree there’s a huge difference in preg stats and live births esp in my age group - over 40

My clinic saw me for tests/medication weekly until 12 weeks and then monthly up to the end of pregnancy. We were in touch and they knew all about my DS birth.
