IVF at Birmingham women's hospital

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has had IVF (in vitro fertilization) on the NHS at Birmingham women's hospital. We are just starting our first cycle and I seem to be weighed at every given opportunity! Can I ask what happens at the appointment where I go to be taught to inject myself. Do they weigh you yet again then? Is there anything else that happens in that appointment?

Any advice would be great.

Thank you.

Hi I can’t answer your question but I am also going to be having ivf at the women’s. Sorry but can I ask how long from testing to ivf did it take? We have only just been referred to gynaecology/infertility at the women’s x

Hi I almost had IVF with women’s 4 years ago but found out I was pregnant unexpectedly the day I was due to start my injections.
I do remember a lot of weigh ins - but also on the NHS there is a BMI cut off at which They will provide treatment so maybe they are just a lot stricter on it now trying to catch anyone out who might go over the limit?
I’ve now gone private with CREATE near the airport and I’ve only been weighed once if that helps

Good luck. I had a good experience at BWH, despite 2 failed cycles. Successful on 3rd.

Sorry to be so candid with this but I'd rather be honest with you...

We had a terrible time with the Women's Hospital. We ended up leaving and going private after 3 privately funded rounds. We were treated terribly and the BMI thing continued throughout but that wasn't the main issue.

We had many failings and even after a complaint they still never admitted their wrong doing.

The incorrectly diagnosed the CMV result...
They were adamant there wasn't a ferocity problem when a simple Google search and other medical experts since disagree completely and we were just genuinely treated in an appalling manner like we were lucky to be be in a position to be paying less than a private clinic.

In the end we went to Midland Fertility (now IVI Midland) and had first time sucess, treated properly and given accurate information. We also didn't have wait stupid lengths of time.

I'm sorry to be so bruefully honest but I need to be. Personally, I wish I'd not wasted the 12 months I did there.

Xx

Hi, we were referred in June and only just getting to start the process now. It’s been a loooong wait

Thank you for your comments.
I’m sorry to hear of the bad experiences at the BWH, unfortunately as this is on the NHS I have absolutely no choice as to where the treatment will take place.
Congratulations to those who have had success and I wish all the luck in the world to those are continuing on with their fertility journey
