Hi all,

I have been referred to the infertility clinic by my gp. Was lucky and got a quick appt for march which i was shocked with.

I have very irregular periods that can then last ages and fairly heavy.

I have had a scan and nothing to cause concern on that.

I have had blood tests and waiting for the results on them

Didn't mean for the lengthy post 🙈

Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on what happens at the first infertility appt?

Thanks x

Hi,

At our first fertility clinic appointment she basically just asked our medical history and told us off for not having my husband's sperm analysis results (well not really told us off, but said there wasn't much she could do until it came back). I was referred for another set of bloods, to see if the results were the same (borderline low, so maybe not ovulating).

Anyway the next time we went was with my the SA results (which were bad) and so she sent us back to the GP to get a referral to urology, so to be honest neither appointment really helped us move forward. Or at least it felt that way..

I hope your appointment goes well!

Sorry to hear this. Our first appointment was last year. They asked a lot of questions about health history, how much sex we have, lifestyle questions etc. It was nhs and very thorough.

Make sure you read your appointment letter properly. I didn't and it nearly resulted in not being seen. We had to take i.d and proof of address etc. I think it's to ensure you're eligible for free ivf if it comes to that but I'm not 100%.

They'll make a plan of what's next from there. Ours was further investigations for me. Had those investigations a fortnight ago and I've got follow up next month. First started the process in June so it's all quite slow unfortunately.

Has OH had SA checked?

How long have you been ttc?

Thanks for your responses really appreciate it.
So my hubby had cancer in 2012 and docs couldn't say if it would affect his sperm but he has simce had the all clear and had his sperm checked again around 2 years ago and it was all fine (he was very proud of himself!)
When i told my gp that she said thats fine he wouldn't need to have another one done just yet.
You know when you just know its you with the problem (meaning me) I have always felt like i will struggle to concieve.
We've been trying for over a year now but have had unprotected sex for several years and nothing has ever happened.

Sorry to hear about OH, but so pleased to hear a happy outcome for him 👍🏻
I know exactly what you mean about that feeling, I had the same and it's proving true currently!
Keep us posted 😊
