Male Fertility After Chemotherapy

This is a bit Jeremy Kyle - esque but here we go.

My male cousin had cancer as a child and made a full recovery following intense chemo. He is now 28. At the time, his parents considered having some sperm frozen for him for his future as it was likely he would be rendered infertile. As he had not yet started puberty there was no sperm to take to freeze for him.

My cousin is currently single and has no desire to have children.

He got a knock at the door a few days ago from a social worker informing him he had been named by his ex gf as the possible father of her newborn baby girl and asked if he would be willing to take a dna test as the child has been taken from its mother due to serious concerns and if is unlikely the child will be returned to the mother. He is more than willing to take a dna test however he did make mention that he was considered infertile due to his chemo as a child. This has come as a bit of a shock to the whole family.

There are at least 4 other men being tested as she seemed to be with quite a few men in a short space of time.

Has anyone had an experience of male fertility after chemotherapy as a child?

Hi OP.

My partner had leukaemia at 3years old. He had chemotherapy. Nothing was every mentioned to his family about his fertility. It is playing on our minds now though at 29 as we are planning to TTC.
I mentioned it to my GP but she mentioned that we have to TTC for a year before they will carry out fertility tests.
We are going try his doctor who has known him for years to see if he can give us a sperm test.
Failing that we will pay privately at a clinic to get this done.
I don't trust these home kits.

Perhaps your cousin should get a fertility test if the baby doesn't turn out to be his just to double check really.
