Cyst and IVF

I had an appointment with a sonographer today about a cyst on one of my ovaries. The scan results need to be reviewed but apparently it’s likely that I will need some form of ‘treatment’, probably as an outpatient which sounds like navigating the NHS and waiting lists.

I now need to wait for the clinic to call me, which probably won’t be until tomorrow.

Has anyone else had this? What was the treatment and how long did it delay things?

I feel like I’m on a never ending quest to get IVF started. It’s been months and still no treatment, despite terrible hormone level results and being told that ‘time isn’t on my side’. I’m so stressed, frustrated and upset. I’m desperate to get started as I’ll never have children at this rate.

Not sure if it's much help, but I didn't want to read and run. I had a fairly large dermoid cyst in both ovaries which eventually got quite painful. I had to have them both removed which meant day surgery- was put on the waiting list in Jan (2018) and had the surgery mid May (appointment letters in my NHS trust arrive 2 weeks before your pre-op assessment and my op was a week after the pre-op)

The consultant managed to remove them via keyhole surgery, so I was in hospital from 8am and left around 4pm. Recovery was just over 2 weeks. Hope that helps a little bit, wishing you all the best OP, hoping your journey can start soon xx

I'm sorry you're in limbo waiting. I don't have any experience of cysts but I have fibroids blocking my tubs so will need surgery. I'm not in the fertility system yet, but hopefully the GP will refer me when I see him tomorrow (had the scan a month a go).

The waiting is so hard. I hope you can have surgery quickly and it doesn't delay your ivf. Good luck xx 🍀

Weirdly I had almost exactly the same experience as @MoanaofMotunui except a month or two behind, and my recovery took a bit longer. I was diagnosed in Feb after a trip to A&E for abdominal pain, put on the waiting list in May, and had the surgery in August. In and out in a day, all done keyhole, and sent home to rest. Recovery took about 1 month and I still get pain now, 5 months on, but I was told it would have no impact on my fertility

I have been referred for IVF but have a large dermoid, so they've now referred me back to NHS to have removed before they will start the IVF. Cyst being removed this Friday (although they've left me a voicemail saying when I'm there on the day it might be cancelled as they now have a busy day, so we shall see!) And then I'll be referred back to IVF but I'm not sure how long I'll have to wait till they will re-start it all.

I'm due to have a cyst and polyps removed next month. Iv posted a similar post on another site as I'm keen to see what people's experiences are too.
Iv got a consultation tomorrow, we're going private. It's been a long time coming as I feel I've just bounced around the Nhs and not really got anywhere for 7 years now.
I was diagnosed in December, my surgeon will remove my cysts and polyps and also correct my septum .

I had a dermoid removed in 2017 and two endometrioma in 2018. Both private through healthcare at work which was a blessing as it made things much quicker. Both keyhole day surgery and recovery was ok - back to work in 2 weeks but worked from home after a week, felt much better after a few days. The surgery if goes to plan is very straightforward and they will preserve as much ovarian tissue as they can.

I have a cyst almost 5cm in size. Have another scan next month to check on it. I was told if I'm needing treatment and it hasn't gone on it's own, I'll need to have it removed! So for those who've had surgery, does that mean they won't put you on ivf waiting list before the surgery? Seems unfair that you can't go on the waiting list to start the long wait!!!

@Skorda - I've just read your first post and I had to comment, the same thing has literally happened to me last year. After being told I could never have children naturally (due to numerous fertility problems which I wont bore you with) I was ready to start IVF. We originally got referred in May 2018 and didn't actually start treatment until March 2019. This was due to constant cysts on my ovaries when I had a scan. I've already had two laparoscopys before this, and obviously recovery time isn't quick, so they advised to try and get rid of the cysts by taking a hormone pill everyday rather than having more surgery, which I was pleased about because I knew I'd still get more cysts after the surgery anyway! Thankfully after months of taking the pill, I had a scan which confirmed the cyst had reduced in size and I was ready to start IVF.

Such a stressful time because in between all this I was told "Time is what you need but time is not what you have" those words will never be removed from my brain. We're about to start our second round in the next few weeks all being well.

My first laparoscopy was to remove a 16cm cyst from my left ovary, which in the long run actually ruined my ovary and tube, so my second one was to remove the ovary and tube and diagnose other things I have. I suppose it depends on the person on recovery time, the first one I was back to work in 3 weeks but the second laparoscopy I had 4 weeks off, I have a partly physical job and wasn't allowed to work from so I decided to take that time off to make sure I was properly recovered. I had more removed and more things done on the second time so I was more sore and recovery was slower for me personally, but everyone is different xx

Have any of you been to A & E with pain as a result of ovary cysts? They advised me to go if I have a sudden onset of pain. I wasn't aware I had a cyst on my left
Ovary, but last weekend whilst on my period I could really felt it. Today, I have a similar pain on the right hand side, although that one was clear of cysts at the time of my scan! It's more painful than what I've felt at any point on the left though!
