Is anyone listening to the Lets Talk Fertility with Izzy Judd podcast?

If so, what do you think? Is it helping you? What bits have you enjoyed/not got on with?

I've just listened to the first three that are online and i'm not sure how i feel about it. I'm pleased that infertility and ivf is being discussed as an issue and there is a lot in there that I can relate to. I don't love the almost 'spiritual' side of it, like how her grief could have affected her fertility, or the idea that your attitude going into ivf might affect the outcome. I don't like the idea that my 2 transfers failed because of something i was thinking and i wasn't positive enough. I mean I don't believe that and the podcast doesn't make it 'true', but it's hard to hear.

Would be interested to hear others' take on it and have some discussion here.

Thanks

Hi @Zooples I'm just getting into podcasts and Izzy's are on my list. I have read her book. It's difficult as I'm at the beginning of my journey, just started tests to see why we're not conceiving so not quite at the intervention stage yet.

I follow a number of people on Instagram and there is quite a big ttc community on there. A podcast I listened to last night was ttc life raft with Alice Rose and I found that interesting and could relate to some of the discussion.

Do you listen to any others?

I'm sorry to hear of your failed transfers - no I don't agree with it being down to not thinking postively enough Flowers hope you're OK

Thanks for your reply venus i really hope your tests come back with some answers and you guys get lucky soon.

I listen to a lot of podcasts but haven't gone too far down the ttc angle as i'm cautious of getting too obsessive - it's been a long 3 years ttc #2! I might check out alice rose, thanks for the recommendation. I guess it's hard listening to others' stories if they all have a happy ending, so i'm looking for a bit of hope that things will be okay even if we don't manage to conceive again. Ive got a few more frosties to use up over the next few months, but i'm resigned to it not really working and i guess trying to figure things out as a family of three.

I've listened to it but I do find her a bit twee for me, although I did enjoy the Gabby Logan interview. I've been listening to 'Big Fat Negative', they are a lot more similar to me. Also the 'The Fertility Podcast' has been interesting and it does tend to cover a topic each episode so you can pick those that are relevant.

I agree. I feel like she's too nice a person for me to be friends with in real life (not that I'm going to be friends with her, but hopefully you know what I mean!). The big fat negative girls on the other hand are fab. I would definitely recommend this podcast! It's the perfect mix of informative and funny.

Thanks for the recommendations, i think twee is right right word for it. I'm sure she's super lovely but maybe not quite the right fit for me. Ive just started a binge of the Alice Rose one and really enjoying it so far, need to get on to the bfn one!

The conversation on comparisons was really helpful. I don't really do it in about aspect of life other than ttc and it's a drag. Just an avenue to feel sorry for myself! It's getting better as I tell myself im forging my own path and must try to enjoy what I have but it's definitely still a work in progress

Another recommendation for Alice Rose's podcast. Her voice is so soothing in rush hour traffic too! 😂

Another one that is probably not for everyone is 'Matt and Doree's Eggcellent Advantage' they are American and pretty funny. They start with 'hello my name is Matt and my sperm is dumb, Hello my name is Doree and my eggs are old'. There's a lot of episodes and I have started at the beginning recently. Worth a go to laugh at this unfortunate situation we're all in.

I went on Woman's Hour to discuss IVF with Izzy Judd on Monday and she seemed very nice - I mentioned the Big Fat Negative podcast and the Fertility podcast on air as other podcasts that were worth listening to

I'm also biased as I've been on the fertility podcast and am going to be guest hosting a few episodes next year, but can recommend them both!

Also IVFML for a funny US take

(I also fundamentally disagree with her advocating that stress and grief affecting infertility as the evidence has shown that it unequivocally does not, and I think it's a pernicious idea that places blame on the patient for not being zen enough!)

(here's the link to the woman's hour discussion if anyone is interested - I'm the one that isn't Izzy Judd!!)

Thanks bananafish I'll check those out! Exciting you were on there with her, I've been following the work you've been doing on this issue so great to hear you're getting your voice heard. I agree that it places unnecessary blame on women who are already struggling. I think it's obviously good to try and find peace of mind and happiness, but for yourself, not as a miracle cure to get that bfp.

Like bananafish strongly disagree with those kind of statements and think they’re nasty and manipulative. Similar stuff around for illness, eg cancer. That kind of content would mean I wouldn’t listen to or read stuff by that person.

Well done on the Woman's Hour discussion bananafish - you came across really well. I found the discussion really interesting although didn't agree with the points the Create lady was making about lack of intervention in the 2WW being the best - I thought she had a very one sided view based on what her clinic offers.

I think Izzy Judd is lovely although with 4 failed transfers behind me now she doesn't really represent for me just how difficult IVF can be. I know everyone who goes through it has a hard time - but as IVF worked pretty quickly for her and she went on to conceive naturally she doesn't represent my experience. Although I think it is great she is speaking out about it.

Thank you @Zooples I feel stragely disconnected this week, had my cd1-5 test yesterday and a scan on Monday.

I've listened to more of Alice Rose these last couple of mornings, glad you liked them :)

Hi @bananafish81 I did try to listen in but it wouldn't load properly, so will definitely try again. I've read some of your articles that you had in the metro too (not a stalker, I promise) but just wanted to say thank you, really helps to know I'm not alone ❤️

Just listened to the woman's hour episode bananafish, you came across really well and definitely agreed with your point about early testing (and everything else too 😬).

Struggle i know what you mean, if I'd have gotten pregnant after my last (second) transfer i would have felt so incredibly lucky and quite on the periphery of the ttc/infertility community. What has your fc said about all your failed transfers? That sounds so rough.
