Hi. I’m Katie. Like it says in subject heading I’m literally just starting my journey. I have my first appointment at my fertility clinic and I’m pretty nervous. What do I ask, what should I expect will happen...Help. Thank you in advance. X

Have you had all the blood tests?? I'm currently just waiting on my chlamydia and smear test and my OHs sperm analysis before we have our referral.

Hi, I am in the same position, been to our local hospital m, I have a low AMH of 3.2 and my partner has a low sperm count, been referred for IVF at St Mary's Manchester.
Still waiting for my initial appointment l. I have been told it will be around 6 weeks and then hopefully no waiting from there.
I was on a thread yesterday that said they are open days at clinics that you can go to, I am going to see about this today.
There are so many questions I have and reading google seems to have taken over my life xx

Hi @Katiefi, I'm just a bit behind you. Had my bloods which were OK but an ultrasound this week flagged up fibroids and they thought they were possibly blocking my tubes, got to wait to see my GP to discuss. Dh has his sperm analysis in early January but we will be referred. My GP had said fertility clinics often want yo re-test but not sure if that is common / will happen. When's you appointment? Would you mind sharing what happens as it would help me to prepare.

@ilovetrees30 we're at the same point - had my swabs this week too. Good luck 🤞

@ Charliechalk123 I've been looking into local clinics but ehrn I said to dh I'd like to go to an open day he said I was jumping ahead and we should wait until we've at least had a referral. Ttc is so hard, I struggle not knowing what's going to happen and not being in control, patience is not something I have!

I'm just behind you too.
Done day 3 bloods, waiting for SA and day 19. Appointment with clinic is in January to discuss findings.
We already have a son so have gone straight to a private clinic (bloods are via NHS) as we wont qualify for any NHS help. (Which I totally agree with)
Trying to forget about it all over xmas (and who knows that might do the trick!)

We've just had a letter to postpone dh's SA until March 😥 I've got an appointment in January to discuss my scan results. I'm hoping that as they found something we can be referred on that basis rather than having to wait.

I'm not doing well not thinking about it. Just had lots of snotty tears, it's horrible having no control over our future. At the mercy of the NHS. We've chatted about private but we can't afford it at the moment. This is one of the toughest things I've gone through and we've not really started yet!

Oh no @VenusStarr did they say why they've postponed the SA? Im ringing my gp tomorrow to find out if the referral to the clinic has gone through yet

Charliechalk123 · 20/12/2018 21:56

Ahh ok, why are they postponing the SA?

There was no reason given @ilovetrees30 just said your appt is now in March, call us if you can't attend.

So sad and frustrated.

Hooe your referral has gone through, fingers crossed you get an appt soon.

Hope you're all OK Flowers

I have had my initial appointment at fertility clinic all my initial tests came back fine that the gp did. Waiting for dh SA results get them back at follow up appointment in jan. And they want me to get my bmi as close to 30 as i can as if they have to intervene they cant until my bmi is 30 or below. Dunno why we have to wait so long for SA results x

We are at the hospital referral stage next month. All bloods and SA done.

I have no idea what the first appointment is going to be like but am starting to feel a bit nervous and awkward about the whole thing. We are going through NHS

@MaisyPops I am waiting for our first appointment to come through. Will be chasing the gp next week to see if the referral has actually been sent off.

Although I am currently trying to persuade my OH to ring the gp to find out his SA results because he thinks that because my bloods came back fine its him with the problem.

Hello, I have just started too, we got referred in August, had to repeat all our tests at the new hospital, just had our first consultation, I feel like every time we have to go there it’s always just over a month til the next appointment, I am far too impatient, just wish you could get it all done within a month instead of it dragging out! Wishing youse all the best of luck!!

I think there was a bit of that with my DH. My bloods came back fine and then he starred stalling (and then I became irrationally upset over my next period and thought he didn't want a baby when actually with a rational head on he was probably just a bit scared).
As it happened, his SA came back normal as well.

If it helps him I think a third of cases it's unexplained.

Hope your referral goes well.
