Infertility

Low Sperm Count

Hi There

My husband and I both had fertility tests and his came back as very low sperm count/volume. We need to wait two weeks to discuss results of his second test so as you can imagine my mind is going mad. His second test may say other wise but the doctor very clearly said it would be very difficult for us to convince naturally if those results are the same as the first. We have been trying for almost 1.5 years so I am not totally surprised by this news.

Does anyone know what treatments are available? The doctor said he does have active sperm which is a good thing. So far from what i have seen only it would be IVF for us??

Also does anyone know roughly how long the IVF waiting list is (we are in east of Scotland)

I know I will know more when we have our app at the fertility clinic but at the moment would love to know if anyone has been in this boat and can offer me any advice?

I feel powerless and confused

Thanks

Depends what's causing the issue. Supplements and lifestyle changes can make a difference. He might be referred to urology.

Can't help with wait times for Scottish ivf...

My DH has similar results and we went straight to ICSI. To be honest I was very grateful we didn't spend ages fiddling around with supplements and more tests - we started ivf pretty much the month after our first consultation - success on cycle 2 x

We have the same issue and are having IVF with ICSI privately in the Czech Republic as much cheaper there than in the UK and we are not eligible for treatment on NHS in our area. Not sure on IVF waiting lists if going through NHS, think it depends on where you are in the country as all different, but when I got our initial Fertility appointment with gaenocologist through it said most people get treatment within 42weeks I think, so even if we could have NHS treatment we would have gone private as don't want to wait.

What supplements are you all taking? What are your thoughts about CoQ10 and fertility for men?

I am in a similar position, except we are at the initial stages of just having done the sperm test, the wait is absolutely excruciating, my other half is feeling extremely stressed, as am i. I have heard that In scotland generally you can get 3 cycles on the NHS, i saw one website where it showed all the areas and what was available, so u can find out. I hope that is the case for you.

My DH has low count and low motility and morphology. We had that confirmed by 3 SA back in January. Still waiting for a referral through NHS to see a consultant. He takes wellman conception supplements and coq10 as well as high dose vit c and there has been an improvement from 2million to 7million in 3 months. Alongside wearing loose fitting boxers. He already had a good healthy active lifestyle for a long time.

Whatelsecoyldibecalled that’s great there has been an improvement ! Do you mind me asking what area of the country you are in? That’s a long time to wait we got referred two weeks ago and waiting for the appointment ... I hope it’s not that long! X

Cinnabonbon I totally understand it’s such a stress waiting for the results and hard for my husband, feels really sad about it. I just keep thinking why ? It’s so unfair, we are healthy we exercise eat our five a day and would be great parents. Good luck with ur test results x
