7 week scan and blighted ovum

Hi,
I'm trying to get my head round my 7 week scan on Friday which showed a 14.8mm pregnancy sac which was empty. I had had a reduction in symptoms a week before even now still feel nauseous in the morning, sore boobs and tired. I have another scan to confirm the sac is empty in 2 weeks but we have no hope and realise this is just procedure.
So now I'm waiting to miscarry. It's such a muddle of emotions. I have to keep taking my progesterone till the next scan 'just in case' but the nurse at the scan told me she can declare it a miscarriage and needs a consultant to do it which will happen at the second scan. It's basically above her pay grade.
Has anyone else been in the same situation and if so how long was it till you got to try another cycle?

I’m so sorry to hear this. I had an ectopic which involved lots of scans and waiting to see what happened before I ended up in surgery, so I know the pain of being stuck in limbo. It’s horrible I’m so sorry. We had to wait three months before we could try again but that’s because of the surgery so hopefully it’s quicker for you. But I’m
Sure someone will come along who will understand what you are going through a little better. Take care of yourself you’re going through a lot 💐

You poor thing.

This happened to me back in February and it was absolutely gutting. I had a lack of symptoms but my main worry was a pain on my left side like a stitch which at first I thought was an ectopic but waited for a scan with our local early pregnancy unit which was another two days wait to be told there is a sac but it's empty. It's just awful but I do think you just know sometimes...

All I can say is give yourself time and be nice to yourself it took me a while to stop feeling angry and just empty really...I felt like it was a really nasty trick my body had played on me to make me have pregnancy symptoms and a strong positive test for it all not to be...Two of my friend's got pregnant that month as well which just made me feel worse.

I had never heard of this before but typically now it's happened to me it seems to be more common.

You will be ok but it just takes a bit of time Thanks

Thanks so much @ohluckyme and @custardcream5. I'm trying to stay positive and work out what we can do differently next time like improve our diets and I'm looking in to starting acupuncture. I'm 38 so feel like time is running out and I really want to move on.

This happened to me too. I had to have the Erpc too as the tablet didn’t do anything to get it out. Sad

It’s awful and gutting. So so common too which doesn’t help I realise. Flowers for you.

In terms of timelines _ mine wasn’t ivf but it took about 2 months for my period to come back afterwards.

I would much rather have the procedure to remove things than have the emotional pain of waiting for it. I just wish the clinic didn't have me waiting for another 2 weeks for another scan. The nurse was adamant there was nothing there and I had lost it but still wouldn't say it was 100% over. It's such torture.

Sending enormous hugs your way Runner. I’m in a not dissimilar boat. I had a scan at 5+1 at my local EPU to check the pregnancy wasn’t an ectopic. They found a tiny empty sac, so small in fact that it was off the scale in terms of dating, so my pregnancy was definitely behind at that stage. I have a scan on Tuesday (at 7+0) to see if things have progressed. The Dr at EPU was reluctant to say that the end was nigh, and was at pains to suggest that because of IVF, (and from my Googling, my pregnancy could just be a be a little behind (and from my googling, the sac was below the size at which they can comfortably diagnose a blighted ovum) but to be honest I’m not overly hopeful.

I’ve similarly spent the weekend googling missed miscarriage and the options for treatment. Also currently leaning towards an ERPC, although I wish my body would deal with it naturally.

Ignore the first “and from my googling”. I should really proofread my posts before posting.

I'm so sorry Runner. Flowers

I had a blighted ovum too. It was a bit different for me as I was carrying twins and the other baby was fine, but even so, I can empathise with the pain you are going through. I just wanted to say that you may not have to wait the full 2 weeks until the next scan. I am pretty sure I passed the blighted ovum within 2 weeks of my scan, though it wasn't discovered until 9.5 weeks in my case. It was spontaneous too, no tablets or surgery, though i suppose that wasnt an option for me anyway, with the other twin still in place. It is a horrible thing to experience, but forewarned is forearmed.

Good luck going forward

Thanks everyone. As much as u find it frustrating I have to wait till the say 100% it's not viable I suppose the sac was a little small for them to say for sure. I hate clinging on to tiny bits of hope such as was it a late implantation, could I have a tilted uterus. My heart lives in hope but my head knows it's not going to happen. I keep doing pregnancy tests in the hope my hcg levels drop soon but they're still sky high.
Your words and support really do mean and help a lot. Thanks 😘

So sorry to hear this, I’ve just had the same thing, two empty sacs what are the odds .. (quite high prob to be fair). Still miscarrying atm

I realised I had started feeling less tired and fewer symptoms all round around 5 weeks. I’m giving myself three months so try naturally as I have read that there is a higher chance of conceiving after a miscarriage, otherwise it will be a fresh cycle in jan.

Look after yourself OP

I also had the left sided constant dull pain for a couple of weeks as well, made me think it was ectopic nut it was obviously related to the embryos not developing further

I had this 4 weeks ago, I miscarried naturally but feel like this was my last chance due to my age, I hate that my body made me believe I was pregnant when there was nothing there 😢
Sending you gentle hugs xx

@mumof4andahalf i really hppe things work out for you. Are your cycles back to normal yet?
It's such a horrible situation. I still haven't miscarried and I was told by the ivf clinic to keep taking my progesterone until my 9 week scan just in case and because of that I won't miscarry before then. I've found that the hardest bit. I don't feel pregnant at all now. It's like someone put a pin in my boobs and deflated them so all I have are progesterone side effects and extreme exhaustation. I just want the whole thing over with now.
I feel the same about my age. I keep thinking my eggs are always going to be poor quality because of it. It's a horrible situation.

I've not had a period yet and been told it can take 8 weeks
How horrible for you, as much as you want to be pregnant you need it to be over with too so you can move on, how old are you? If you don't mind me asking, I'm 41

@runner31 I know it's horrible to give any hope but when I was pregnant I only had symptoms around my period and 2 weeks after. After that I was totally normal until about month 6 when the nausea came back for a few weeks.

Thanks @AlphaBravo. I think I always keep a little bit of hope in the back of my mind. It's probably why I hate the period of being in limbo so much.
Mumof4andahalf I'm 38 about to turn 39. I only have one working ovary because of damage from a dermoid cyst which adds to my worry. The number of eggs I produce is so low already I worry with every month that passes that I'm never going to carry a baby.

I don't know how true it is but have heard you're more fertile after a miscarriage...don't give up hope 💕

I read that too so ordered new ovulation strips yesterday 😂

Sod the strips @runner31. If it turns out nothing has progressed, just go for it every other day (when you're able to start again) and enjoy it. If not only just for the one month ❤
